Holidays in Cyprus: reviews, photos and prices. What to see in Cyprus? What do you need to know when traveling to Cyprus? Tasting local wine is a pleasant experience

When going to any country, the first thing you do is research what you can do there. If this is a beach holiday, then in addition to the beach you always want to get acquainted with the culture and architecture of the country, as well as its cuisine. So what is there to do in Cyprus?

1. sea
First of all, of course, swim in the beautiful azure sea and sunbathe on the snow-white sandy beaches! Cyprus is a great place for a holiday with small children, because the sand there is so soft that you don’t want to take sun loungers, and the sea is so gentle and shallow that children will be comfortable at any age. But this is a place specifically for recreation, and not for cultural and educational purposes. No, there is culture there, and there is something to see! But a little. So we perfectly combined a pleasant holiday with a small excursion program.

2. monasteries
If you're staying in Ayia Napa, you can visit a 16th-century monastery dating back to Venetian rule. But other Cypriot cities are full of different monasteries with very similar architecture.

3. tombs
It was surprising to discover the Makronissos tombs in Cyprus, carved into the rock of a mountainside, which date back to the Neolithic era. However, as they write, they were also used during the periods of Roman and Byzantine rule. The main difference between them and Egyptian tombs is that they are not guarded, and you can look inside without hindrance. And inside there is a very nice “three-room apartment”, you can even see the stone “beds”!

4. cycling routes
Cyprus is a great place for cycling. The cities have well-designed bike paths, the only thing you need to remember is that traffic is on the left, even for cyclists :) We rode a lot, went to the neighboring town of Protaros, located 14 km from Ayia Napa, and also along the 9.5-kilometer Ayia route described in the guidebook -Napa - Aya Thekla.

5. Cape Greco and caves
Cape Greco is the most southeastern tip of Cyprus. Located 7 km from Ayia Napa and 4 km from Protaras. The most convenient way to get there is by bicycle. The cape itself is fenced with barbed wire, because... a British military radar is located there. However, the surrounding area offers excellent views. Tired cyclists can take a break on numerous benches and in the gazebo located at the very top of the cape.

To the west from Cape Greco towards the Kriu Neru beach, picturesque caves (Thalassines Spilies) stretch - the result of the work of sea waves, carving intricate grottoes and arches into the limestone cliffs.

6. water sports
There are many varieties of it in Cyprus, we tried one where you are lifted by parachute behind a boat - it was fun :)

7. water park
2 km west of the center of Ayia Napa there is a wonderful Waterworld water park, there are many slides of different difficulty levels, there are slides where you can ride two or three - it’s a lot of fun :))

8. Nicosia
You should definitely visit the capital of the island, Nicosia, a city divided into two parts by the so-called “green line”. This is the only capital in the world, half of which belongs to one state - Cyprus, and half to another - the unrecognized Republic of Northern Cyprus, founded in 1974 by the Turks. The name “green line” comes from the color of the pencil with which one of the officers at the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping contingent drew a line on the map, which divided the Greek and Turkish quarters. But in fact, this line is blue, because it is filled with blue striped things and surrounded by barbed wire. By the way, you can’t take pictures of the border; the menacing Turks are watching from above with machine guns, but they didn’t follow us.

The city shows signs of numerous bombings. In general, Nicosia is replete with medieval, colonial and modern buildings. The fortress walls erected by the Venetians and the gates of Famagusta have been preserved. The pedestrian area of Laiki Gitonja with its cozy cafes and souvenir shops is also very picturesque.

9. donkeys
One of the fun tourist attractions in Cyprus is the Donkey Safari and Cyprus Night. We were taken to the Dipotamos farm, where we were first offered to taste various Cypriot delicacies, such as Zivania vodka (well, whoever wanted it, tried it), Commandaria wine (I didn’t refuse this!), various local cheeses and butter. Then they told us about the methods of preparing oil and wine and showed us the ancient tools with which all this was done in Cyprus. Commandaria is a sweet dessert wine made from overripe, sun-dried grapes and bottled after 10 years of aging.

Then the instruction began, during which they explained to us how to saddle a donkey and how to control it in general :) It seemed to me that donkeys are more difficult than horses. They are somehow on their own wavelength :) My donkey was constantly hungry, so he would approach even the steepest cliff and start nibbling the grass and constantly strive to go somewhere into the bushes :)

In general, the donkey ride was very fun, at the end we were given the license to drive a donkey, so I already have some licenses :) After the donkey ride, we were given dinner with homemade wine and a dance show. The dance program included dancing with glasses - a national Cypriot pastime - the more glasses you have on your head, the cooler you dance. And of course, sirtaki, where would we be without it!

10. kitchen
The cuisine in Cyprus is incomparable! There is a lot of Greek in it. The most important element of Cypriot cuisine is meze - a set of dishes consisting of a variety of appetizers, several types of grilled meat and fish, as well as seafood and vegetables. After such a meal it is impossible to leave the table!

Kleftiko is lamb meat baked in its own juices until it becomes so soft and tender that it falls off the bone on its own. Usually served with fried potatoes. ? 🐒 this is the evolution of city excursions. The VIP guide is a city dweller, he will show you the most unusual places and tell you urban legends, I tried it, it’s fire 🚀! Prices from 600 rub. - they will definitely please you 🤑

👁 The best search engine on the Runet - Yandex ❤ has started selling air tickets! 🤷

Holidays in Cyprus attract crowds of tourists with opportunities to realize their most daring plans - from hours-long swims in the warm Mediterranean Sea to stunning dives, exciting trips to places where, according to rumors, the gods themselves lived, and detailed acquaintance with the delights of Mediterranean cuisine. Vacationers never have a question about what to do in Cyprus, since the answer is obvious: no one will be bored.

Which beaches to choose

Picturesque, amazingly clean sand and pebble beaches are the most powerful magnet of Cyprus. They stretch along the entire coast, luring vacationers with the azure glow of clear sea water. Almost all the beaches of the island, including those marked with the Blue Flag of the European Union, are run by the municipality, that is, there is no entrance fee, but all services - sun loungers, awnings, umbrellas, towels - are paid.

The best beaches in Cyprus:

  • Coral Bay, pleasing to the eye with snow-white sand, lies 12 km from the resort center;
  • The sandy Geroskipou Beach is also located not far from the center: the rocky Municipal Baths Beach in Kato Paphos, which offers views of Paphos Castle and the embankment, has convenient descents into the water. However, when vacationing in Paphos with children, it is better to choose another place for swimming;
  • Lara Beach on the Akamas Peninsula in Lara Bay is a protected place where giant green turtles live, and white-bellied seals hide from human eyes in caves. In order not to destroy the turtle nests in the sand, you will not be able to sit on a sun lounger under an umbrella - it is prohibited. Lara Beach is more suitable for divers;
  • The legendary Aphrodite Beach, where the Goddess of Love and Beauty emerged from the foam of the sea onto the shore of the island, is a rocky piece of land, the main attraction of which is the picturesque rock of Petra tou Romiou or Aphrodite’s Rock. Swimming in this place is dangerous due to undercurrents, climbing on the rock is prohibited, however, the beach with the rock between Paphos and Limassol is very popular;
  • Well-equipped beaches with access to the water for wheelchairs and a nearby park area where you can relax in the shade stretch from Latchi harbor to Polis. Latchi is famous for its abundance of taverns where you can taste delicious fish and seafood dishes. The coastal villages lie away from the favorite tourist routes, so they are calm and relatively quiet even during the peak tourist season. Those who love nightlife are better off choosing Ayia Napa or Limassol for a holiday, and for families with kids, Latchi and Polis are ideal places.

There are beaches for every taste and budget in every resort area of Cyprus, however, it should be noted that the most democratic in all respects is Protaras, in Ayia Napa the fun of youth parties does not subside day or night, Paphos is considered the most fashionable and respectable, Limassol is famous excellent hotels, infrastructure, water parks and vibrant nightlife.

Diving

Scuba diving in Cyprus is one of the main reasons for the popularity of the island, since it is in its waters that it is much safer to take your first steps on the seabed than in the resorts of Egypt and any other country. Vacationers have the opportunity to book excursions to the most beautiful underwater attractions of the ancient island, as well as use the services of numerous diving centers and scuba diving schools, where experienced Russian-speaking instructors work. All dives are carried out under the watchful supervision of diving center staff. A special certificate is required to enter some underwater caves.

Among the most popular diving excursions:

  1. Diving at the Swedish ferry "Zenobia", which sank relatively recently - 1980. The ship was wrecked on its first voyage and now lies on its side just 1.5 km from the coast of Larnaca. Experienced divers penetrate the interior of the Zenobia, overgrown with algae and covered in shells, while others prefer to inspect the ship from the outside.
  2. Cyclops' Cave or Konnos Bay, where beginners are trained, gradually plunging deeper, is a picturesque depression in the rocks, where, according to legend, one-eyed monsters once lived. Now the depression, several tens of meters deep, is completely under water.
  3. Diving into the Canyon of Cape Greco is an activity accessible only to the strongest, most resilient and experienced divers, since it is not easy to reach even by land. The journey, full of dangers, is more than rewarded by the beauty of the underwater landscapes at Cape Greco.
  4. The best and safest place for beginners is Green Bay or Green Bay, where you can swim calmly, admiring the fish flickering in the algae thickets and statues stylized as antiquity. If you're lucky, you might meet a sea turtle swimming about its business.

What to do in Cyprus in winter - tombs, temples, monasteries

Holidays in Cyprus during the cold seasons, when the sea cools down, the beaches are empty, and scuba diving enthusiasts feel uncomfortable even in wetsuits, is no less interesting than in the summer, since there is enough time to get acquainted with the ancient shrines. Some of the most interesting places include:

  • a gigantic underground necropolis in Paphos called the “Tomb of the Kings”, where the burials of wealthy citizens of the Hellenic and Roman periods were carried out, as evidenced by monumental tombs, crypts, and tombstones;
  • Not far from Paphos harbor are the ruins of the Villa of Dionysus - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The once pompous structure, from which a mosaic floor with images of the god of wine Dionysus remains, was discovered in the second half of the 20th century;
  • One of the most impressive places on the island - the Makronisos tombs of the Hellenic and Roman periods - are carved into the rocks not far from the resort of Ayia Napa. Ancient burials are available to tourists;
  • The monastery of St. Nicholas the Catkeeper near Limassol is extremely popular, whose servants have been devoting all their time to cats for more than one and a half thousand years. According to legend, the furry four-legged animals appeared on the island thanks to Saint Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, who visited Cyprus during the most difficult time, when almost all living things died as a result of a deadly drought, with the exception of the snakes that infested the island. The cat army brought by Saint Helena exterminated the creeping reptiles and thereby saved Cyprus from a terrible death, for which Cypriots treat cats with special respect to this day.

Wine and gastronomic excursions in Cyprus

While vacationing in Cyprus, it is worth finding time for a wine and gastronomic excursion, which you can go on in a group or individually. Tourists can take the opportunity to visit family-run wineries, smokehouses, bakeries, and pastry shops in all corners of Cyprus and taste their delicious products. In the village of Agros, where Damask rose is cultivated, cosmetic products based on rose essential oils, rose liqueur, and rose water are produced. In the village of Platres you can try chocolate products handmade by local confectioners. Tourists go to the winery in the village of Omodos to taste the famous Cypriot wines. Cypriot sweets made from fragrant mountain honey, fruits, grapes, walnuts, and almonds have an incredible taste.

Bike tours around Aphrodite Island

Aphrodite Island is famous for its excellent road routes, which is the main incentive for cycling trips. There are organized routes around the island of varying degrees of complexity and length, which pass along mountain roads, in the lowlands and along the coast, with rest stops in city and village hotels, lunches in taverns and eateries.

Things to do in Nicosia

Nicosia - the capital and largest economic, industrial, commercial, cultural, and tourist center of Cyprus - is located in the central region of the island in the picturesque Mesaoria valley at the foot of Mount Pentaktilos. One of the most ancient centers of civilization on the island, the first mention of which dates back to the 12th century BC, is famous for the abundance of temples, churches, and fortifications from different periods of human history, starting from antiquity. Despite the lack of access to the sea, Nicosia is one of the main places in Cyprus, where a huge number of overseas guests gather. Among the most popular attractions of the capital:

  • Hagia Sophia in Gothic style;
  • archbishop's palace;
  • St. John's Cathedral;
  • Church of Our Lady;
  • "Gate of Famagusta";
  • Kyrenia Gate;
  • numerous bastions guarding the approaches to the city.

Water parks in Cyprus

The water parks of Cyprus deserve a special mention. The most popular water park with 16 water slides, rivers, waterfalls, rocky canyons - “Watermania” - is located not far from Limassol. The pride of Ayia Napa is the Water World water park, stylized after the myths of Ancient Hellas. There is a stunning water park with slides called Aphrodite in Paphos, and halfway from Paralimni to Protaras there is a Fun Park Waterpark with a giant pool and 11 slides of varying difficulty levels.

If you're planning your first holiday in Cyprus or are settling into a hotel and planning your first couple of days, you may be caught off guard by the number of activities available to tourists anywhere on the island. Ancient cities, medieval castles, zoos and water parks, museums of modern and classical art, wine, olives, carob - this is just a small part of what you can see, experience and taste on this seemingly small island. How to navigate the variety of Cypriot entertainment and how not to miss anything?

What to do on the coast of Cyprus?

For those who spend their holidays in sunny Limassol, we recommend visiting the ancient city of Kourion, where you can admire the restored ancient theater and Roman baths, decorated with original mosaics, go inside a real medieval castle, which now houses a historical museum, and go to the monastery of St. Nicholas - reputedly the first on the island, and to the picturesque monastery of Kykkos in the Troodos mountains. This is by no means a complete list of cultural attractions in the city and its surroundings: Limassol is home to such unusual museums as the Carob Museum and the Museum of Historical and Classic Cars, and the city's architectural monuments deserve a separate review. 18 beaches for every taste, a zoo and a water park with dozens of slides, amusement parks and cinemas will help you spend the rest of your cultural leisure time serenely. Everything that tourists who want to have an interesting, tasty and educational time in Limassol needs to know can be found.

If your trip around the island takes you through Ayia Napa, Cyprus's major tourist center with many sandy beaches, bustling nightclubs famous far beyond Cyprus, traditional restaurants and souvenir shops, don't miss the Thalassa Museum, which displays a full-size replica of the ship "Kyrenia", an ancient monastery in the city center and an unusual sculpture park, which contains works of sculptors from all over the world. Just 8 kilometers from the city is one of the most impressive natural parks on the island - Cape Greco, and outdoor enthusiasts can go diving, flyboard and even climb aboard a pirate ship. All about holidays in Ayia Napa in ours.

Where to go in Larnaca, the largest city on the southeast coast of Cyprus? Fans of ancient history and architecture should visit the excavations of Kition: a kind of open-air museum where you can look at the ancient defensive walls, the ruins of an ancient Phoenician temple, tombs and much more. 40 kilometers from the city is the world-famous village of Lefkara, whose residents keep and pass on to future generations the secret of making unique lace, and the Monastery of the Holy Cross of Stavrovouni, founded in 327 by Empress Helena, can be reached by car in just 45 minutes. Here you can also laze on the beach with a view of the planes, go diving (including exploring the wreck of the Zenobia ferry), go bowling, feed the donkeys at the farm and shoot with a gun at targets. All about entertainment in Larnaca - in one of our previous ones.

Family holidays in Cyprus

For those who are going to Cyprus with the whole family, it is especially important to prepare an entertainment program in advance. For information on the island's best zoos, indoor amusement parks available in any season, water parks and watersports centers, children's museums, aquariums, planetariums and submarines (and much, much more), check out our roundup. The selection of places is divided by region to make it even more convenient to use! Spoiler: Cyprus is a great place for a holiday with children, which has everything necessary for all participants to enjoy the process without exception - beaches with fine sand and easy entry into the water, educational programs for children of all ages in all major museums and a lot of opportunities for sports and active recreation.

Around Cyprus by car

Are you planning to rent a car in Cyprus? This will certainly open up a lot of exciting opportunities for you. Lovers of ancient architecture and history, as well as connoisseurs of religious art, can go on a tour of the monasteries and holy places of Cyprus (there are 31 active monasteries on the relatively small territory of the island). The history of Christianity on the island began with the apostles Mark and Paul in 45 AD, and over the following centuries the local monasteries went through wars, changes in rulers, periods of prosperity and desolation. Many of them have amazing legends associated with them, which are described in books and passed on by local residents from generation to generation. A guide to the monasteries of Cyprus can be found.

In addition to monasteries, it is worth visiting medieval castles and architectural monuments in Cyprus, some of which were built back in the Roman era. Castles preserve many heroic legends and traditions, and the history of their architectural renovations often reflects the process of changing rulers on the island. In Limassol we recommend visiting Kolossi Castle and Limassol Castle, in Paphos - Paphos Castle, and in Larnaca - Larnaca Castle. Also worth visiting are the ancient fortress of Saranda Kolones, Buffavento Castle in Northern Cyprus and the ramparts in Nicosia. You can read more about all these structures.

For the most postcard views and the freshest air in Cyprus, we recommend going to the Troodos Mountains, the highest point of which, Mount Olymbos, rises almost two thousand meters above sea level. In Troodos there are villages where life, in many respects, still follows the traditional way of life: they make wine, weave lace and produce silver jewelry, live in stone houses with tiled roofs and walk along narrow cobbled streets. And in Troodos you can go on a tour of ancient Byzantine churches, a safari walk and even a ski adventure. Everything you need to know about Troodos can be found in our.

What to bring from Cyprus?

This question torments, without exaggeration, all tourists, and the closer the end of the trip, the more. What things will remind you of the island, but won’t end up in the closet with useless junk? If you are bringing olives, locally produced cosmetics or wine, where to buy these products and how to choose the best? In fact, you can leave your worries aside, because we have already talked about everything in detail.

By the way, one of the most symbolic souvenirs from Cyprus is carob, and carob products in general. It has been cultivated on the island since ancient times and is very widely used in cooking: carob (powder from carob) has many beneficial properties, and chocolate, cocoa and other products made from miracle beans do not contain sugar at all. You can learn more about the history of carob in Cyprus, its role in the island's economy and the products made using it.

What to eat in Cyprus?

Any traditional restaurant on the island will offer you a set of appetizers called meze: a variety of different dishes, divided into bite-sized portions. You will also most likely be offered kleftiko lamb, local kebabs called souvla, beef stifado stewed in tomato sauce with spices, moussaka casserole and at least several types of fish. You can learn about all these and many other traditional dishes of Cypriot cuisine in ours.

Where to relax

Summer is coming, which means that many of us are wondering where in Cyprus it is better to go on vacation with children, where to go for fun and beautiful views, and in general, when is the best time to go on vacation.

Cyprus is a small island located between Egypt and Turkey, but one part of it is called “Turkish” - tourism is practically undeveloped here, and the other, by a strange coincidence, is called “Greek”, where the entire tourist flow is concentrated.

Cyprus regularly receives its “blue flags” - special insignia awarded to bodies of water and beaches with the cleanest water. Accordingly, the beaches of Cyprus are ideal for families with children. But where exactly should you turn your attention? Where is the best place to relax in Cyprus?

So, we can conditionally divide all Cypriot resorts into two parts - active and calm. First about the active ones.

A universal resort where people of any generation will find it interesting and enjoyable. For entertainment, there are several water parks, a menagerie and an amusement park. A big plus is that Limassol has a large Russian-speaking population - no communication problems will arise even without knowledge of English.

However, it should be borne in mind that Limassol is very popular among tourists, and naturally a large number of tourists come here for the summer.

The tourism sector in Larnaca is very active. By the way, it is from here that it is most convenient to travel around the island, and there is also an international airport here, but it is still less noisy here than in Limassol and Ayia Napa.

Ayia Napa

This place is often called the new Ibiza - it is noisy and fun here all the time, and the owners of various bars and clubs are constantly coming up with new methods for having fun. Young people and those who like a positive, fun holiday flock here.

At the same time, it is Ayia Napa that can boast of its ideal beaches with golden sand. The descent into the water is gentle, and there are no winds typical for Cyprus. Children will love the excellent water park, designed in antique style.

Where can you relax in Cyprus without noisy companies nearby? And there are such resorts here.

An amazing place that will appeal to all history and architecture lovers. There is a kind of division between the old and new years. In the old one there are ancient architectural complexes, ancient monuments, and in the new one there are restaurants, shops, boutiques and many offices.

Icosia can also please tourists with excellent beaches that are well equipped.

Pathos

If there is a place in the world that best demonstrates the atmosphere of the Mediterranean, it is Paphos. Previously, this city was the capital, and now it is a popular resort. By the way, not just popular, but also quite expensive.

But it’s not very convenient to relax here with children - hotels and beaches practically do not provide for children’s recreation. But here you can happily spend a romantic vacation or even a honeymoon - there is a belief that nearby Aphrodite herself emerged from the foam of the sea.

This is an excellent resort for a quiet family holiday. If you do not need a large number of animators and children's entertainment, and are ready to simply enjoy unity with nature and communication with the people closest to you, then it is best to go here.

There are leisurely fishing fairs, plenty of sunny days and plenty of yachts here. By the way, Cypriots love to relax in Polis (and, in my opinion, this says something).

A nice city where it’s nice to relax with the whole family. It is located not far from the noisy Ayia Napa, and is not at all inferior to it in terms of infrastructure and equipment, but at the same time it is much quieter and calmer here, and if you wish, you can always rush to Ayia Napa for entertainment.

A multiple visa is issued according to the standard scenario:

  • a copy of the first page of the passport;
  • color photo;
  • a certificate from your place of work or a bank account statement.
If you are planning a vacation with a child, and one of his parents or guardians remains in his home country, then it is better to obtain permission to leave in advance.

Cypriots rarely refuse visas to Russian citizens.

Peculiarities

Naturally, a beach holiday in Cyprus is in order, but what else can you do? If you are planning a family holiday in Cyprus, then you should pay attention to the following activities:
  1. sightseeing and educational holidays - visiting all kinds of excursions is a great opportunity to get to know the history and culture of the island;
  2. all kinds of entertainment - water parks, amusement parks and other entertainment;
  3. menageries, zoos, turtle and fish reserves, a farm with donkeys or camels;
  4. visiting waterfalls and natural attractions;
  5. acquaintance with local cuisine and winemaking, as well as various crafts - for example, basket weaving.
The peculiarities of a holiday in Cyprus are such that you should not expect a green island, buried in flowers and plants - the local climate allows an abundance of greenery only in the spring, and in the summer it is quite dry.

If you are planning an independent trip, then pay attention to chain hotels located on the outskirts - as a rule, their prices are much more pleasant.

Price

Since we're talking about prices, how much does a holiday in Cyprus cost? More recently, Cyprus was an excellent alternative to Turkey and even the Black Sea coast, but now everything has changed.

If you go on vacation on a tourist package, the cost will vary depending on the season. In high season, a trip for two in a four-star hotel will cost approximately 90-95 thousand rubles.

Hotels of a slightly lower rank will cost around 70-80 thousand rubles (for a stay of two weeks).

If you want to save money, then it makes sense to consider either early booking (the price may be 20% lower) or planning a vacation in September - this is the most budget-friendly month, when prices are already falling and the sea is still warm.

Independent travelers can save on accommodation - for example, rent a house or villa for several families, the prices will be very reasonable.

If you plan to explore the island, you can get around by taxi or bus, but driving a rented car can be quite difficult - traffic here is on the left. The cost of a bus ticket is about 1.5-3 euros. If you plan to travel with the whole family, then a taxi will cost about the same as tickets for all family members.

Food in Cyprus is inexpensive, and the portions are very large - you can have dinner for two for 30-35 euros.

Useful information

How can you fly away on holiday in Cyprus literally tomorrow? To do this, it makes sense to look for last-minute tours - their cost is several times lower than usual, and the hotels are very, very decent.

What else do you need to know about Cyprus, holidays 2018? The local population is very friendly and has a very positive attitude towards tourists, so no difficulties will arise. If you are traveling with a child, then keep in mind that Cypriots love children very much.

When planning a trip to Cyprus, many ladies are interested not only in something simple, like how much it costs to relax and where to go on vacation, but also which resorts in Cyprus should be chosen with an eye to shopping. It is best to give preference to Limassol and Nicosia - it is absolutely safe to buy things from any European brands here, and in general these cities are good for relaxation - they have the best beaches, and the Cypriot climate in the summer will please absolutely everyone.

Where is the best place to go to enjoy nature? In my opinion, there is no more beautiful city than Paphos - we see numerous photos and videos of this city very, very often. Speaking of photos - if you don’t trust advertising photos too much that are posted by a tour operator or hotel, then you can always use a little trick and look at the photo on Instagram - it’s rare that a vacationer doesn’t show off their vacation.

If your family plans to relax without frills, but not to deny themselves anything (for example, do not stand in line for lunch in an inexpensive cafe, but dine in restaurants), then you should have at least a thousand euros with you for expenses.

The required budget can be calculated in the following way - take your usual budget and multiply it by at least 1.5 (don’t forget, Cyprus is still Europe), and preferably by 2 - so as not to deny yourself the purchase of souvenirs.

Spend a day at the Paphos Archaeological Park

A must-see for any tourist in Cyprus is getting to know the island’s ancient past. And it is better to take a trip to bygone eras in Paphos, in the Archaeological Park. The story of the discovery of ancient Paphos is as incredible as it is prosaic: while plowing the ground, a simple Cypriot peasant came across a mosaic. This is where the excavations began, which gave Cyprus such a valuable Archaeological Park. In the dwelling of Dionysus one can still see pre-Roman mosaics, as well as later images of Narcissus and the seasons. The floor mosaics in the dwelling of Dionysus are perfectly preserved, as are the mosaics in the dwelling of Aeon. This villa presents truly filigree works, composed of the smallest details and designed in a wide range of colors - an unimaginable creation for ancient times. If you go further, you find yourself in the dwelling of Theseus in an open space. The main treasure of this villa is a mosaic depicting the labyrinth and Theseus before the battle with the Minotaur. Also preserved in the Archaeological Park are the castle (more precisely, the ruins) of the Forty Columns, the Agora, an amphitheater, the remains of an early Christian basilica and the impressive Royal Tombs. And the cost of visiting all this ancient wealth is 4.5 euros.

Go to a village that is famous for its roses and colorful streets

Almost free entertainment is a trip to the village of Agros. Agros demonstrates traditional Cypriot life and is famous for its incredible number of roses: they grow in flower beds, balconies, smell fragrant and spread the floral aroma throughout the village. And some species are more reminiscent of trees than bushes. Another reason to go to Agros is the ancient architecture. Here you can spend hours walking along the streets, looking at the sights along the way. It is worth walking to the site of the Megalos Agros monastery, where the church of Panagia Eleusa was built on its ruins. Valuable icons and a carved altar from the Megalos Agros monastery were transferred to it. To visit the village, 10 euros is enough: you only have to pay for travel - 3 euros (round trip). The remaining 7 euros can be spent on a jar of the famous local “gliko” - traditional jam made from watermelon, walnuts, melon or even carrots.

See the rich Byzantine heritage in Paphos

While vacationing in Paphos, it is worth devoting time to the Byzantine Museum, which is admitted for only 1.7 euros. Its collection is impressive: icons of early and late eras, as well as the oldest icon discovered in Cyprus (VII century) - Agia Marina, manuscripts, carvings, crosses, silver items, ancient priestly robes, including gold embroidered ones, samples of wall painting. The frescoes preserved in the museum were collected from destroyed churches, thus protecting the priceless heritage. Among the exhibited church utensils there are many objects decorated with enamel, filigree and valuable stones, and a special place is given to the staff of the Ephesian Metropolitan. The Byzantine Museum for Cyprus is not just another institution for excursions, but evidence of the religiosity of the local population, remaining from the Byzantine era.

Join the fun and taste wine at the festival

Vacationing in Cyprus in September, you will not only be able to enjoy the velvet season, but also become a participant in the Wine Festival. This is one of the most interesting such events in Europe, which is held in Limassol (municipal park) for 10 days. Since wine occupies an important place in the life of Cypriots and has been valued since ancient times, celebrations in honor of the drink and the god Dionysus are certainly accompanied by music, cheerful dancing, free tastings of delicious dishes and, of course, new wine. At the festival, both famous factories in Cyprus and private manufacturers open their pavilions. The latter, by the way, will delight you with excellent quality, not inferior to the factory one. In addition, farmers are armed with family recipes and production secrets. Despite the specifics, families come to the Wine Festival. Competitions and performances are organized here for little guests. Entrance to the festival costs approximately 6 euros, and sometimes the price includes a bottle of wine from a well-known producer.

Visit the Museum of the Sea with a fascinating exhibition

For 3 euros in Ayia Napa you can get to the Museum of the Sea, interesting for tourists of any age. It is quite cozy, and there are rarely crowds here - you can stroll along the stands and take photos to your heart's content. The museum houses a replica of a ship (the oldest found) that belonged to the ancient Greeks, various fossils, stuffed sea creatures, and a collection of figurines and vases. The hall is divided into three levels. The first presents paintings by Cypriot artists, fossilized corals and shells, the second - ship models. The third exhibition is no less interesting: stuffed mollusks and ancient fish, figurines, masks, ceramics, and animal fossils are stored here.

Rent a bike and ride the routes from Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa's location makes it easy to reach neighboring villages, attractions or beaches. In addition, there are many rental points for this vehicle in the city, and the average price per day is 8 euros. By paying a small amount, you can start planning your trip. There are kilometers of special paths leading from Ayia Napa, but it is better to stock up on maps. So where to go by bike? Firstly, to Paralimni - the path here is a little tedious, although it passes along an equipped path. Therefore, it is better to leave before the heat sets in. From the beaches, it is worth choosing routes to Konnos Bay and Cape Greco (in total - no more than 10 km, including the return trip to Ayia Napa). Another good route is to Agia Thekla beach (7 km one way), where there is even bicycle parking.
