What is prohibited to take and carry on the plane. Aeroflot what is not allowed: check your hand luggage and luggage so that the search at the airport does not become a shock. What cannot be carried in luggage

Carriage of luggage of passenger aircraft customers is regulated by special regulations. Control over the transportation of baggage and hand luggage is carried out by flight safety authorities. Every passenger should know what is prohibited from being carried on an airplane. An airline in any country has a list of items that are prohibited for transportation on board an aircraft.

An airline client who has purchased a ticket of any class has the right to carry hand luggage. Every passenger should know what is prohibited from carrying s7 on an airplane. You should study the list of dangerous goods that are strictly prohibited for transportation. Carry-on luggage includes safe items that are allowed to be transported in the cabin during the flight. The list of prohibited objects is constantly changing and depends on the selected airline.

Preparing baggage for transportation on an airplane

Baggage transportation standards are determined by the countries where the plane ticket was purchased. All passengers must adhere to accepted standards regulating what is prohibited from being carried on an airplane. They apply regardless of the following conditions:

  • class of service;
  • Purpose of Travel;
  • arrival point.

Items prohibited for transportation on airlines are divided into 2 main groups. The first includes items that cannot be taken into the salon. It is important to learn in advance which medications are prohibited from being carried on an airplane in hand luggage. This applies to other objects as well.

Permitted cargo can be checked into the baggage compartment of the aircraft. Particular attention should be paid to pre-registration of luggage. There are no general rules of carriage for all airlines.

The second group is things prohibited for transportation by plane. These objects should not be taken on a flight as legal problems are sure to arise. If you don't learn before flying what items are prohibited from being carried on an airplane, you may have to surrender your ticket and not fly.

Luggage weight control

Before departure, the future passenger of the aircraft must study the general rules for transporting baggage. Airlines have established a number of standards that determine the conditions for transporting baggage with hand luggage. It is better to familiarize yourself with them by visiting the official website of the transport airline. Careful study of the information on the portal is necessary for the correct distribution of transported items. Knowing in advance what is prohibited from being carried on an Aeroflot plane, you should refuse to transport illegal items on board.

Items carried free of charge in a certain quantity must comply with the list established by airline standards. The permitted weight of baggage depends on the class of air ticket purchased. Transportation of excess items must be paid by the passenger in accordance with the established procedure, depending on the ticket fare.

If baggage dimensions are determined by the ticket class, then control over the contents of bags does not depend on the passenger’s status. The suitcase or bag must have a volume of no more than 115 cm. The maximum dimensions that can be taken into the cabin as hand luggage are 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Larger luggage must be checked in as checked luggage. A passenger who refuses to check a suitcase as baggage will not go through the boarding procedure.

The airline checks the volume of luggage when a passenger passes through a frame through which all bags and suitcases in the total volume must freely pass. In order not to pay for exceeding the permissible weight of luggage, you need to find out in advance what is prohibited from being carried in airplane luggage, leaving all unnecessary things at home.

Conditions for allowing dangerous goods on board an aircraft

Cargoes included in the list of prohibited transportation on board an aircraft are dangerous objects that can cause damage to the vehicle. By definition, “dangerous goods” means a substance that can have an adverse effect on human health. The classification of such items or products depends on various criteria set out in the relevant regulations.

You should know that it is prohibited to carry certain types of dangerous goods on board an aircraft, which are divided into 3 categories:

  1. Prohibited for transportation on airplanes.
  2. Transported on cargo aircraft.
  3. Permitted for transportation on passenger aircraft if properly packed and packaged.

The admission of cargo on board the aircraft is subject to increased requirements, so security services monitor passengers' luggage with special care. Airline customers are strictly prohibited from taking on a flight:

  • Food;
  • objects with sharp corners;
  • products that can be destroyed during flight;
  • objects that can cause injury to passengers.

Recognition of cargo as dangerous requires the execution of a special declaration, which significantly increases the cost of transportation by plane.

Prohibition on the transport of dangerous goods

The responsibility assigned for providing complete information about cargo transported by airlines is regulated by Article 121 of the Air Code of the Russian Federation. It states what is prohibited from being carried on an airplane. The complete list groups dangerous objects into classes based on certain characteristics. It contains:

  1. Explosives are dangerous due to the possibility of explosion, scattering or fire (TNT, nitroglycerin, ammunition, grenades, gunpowder, pyrotechnics).
  2. Gases are dangerous due to toxicity and easy flammability (chlorine, gas lighters, gas cylinders, varnishes, deodorants).
  3. - adhesives based on organic solvents, colognes, perfumes, fir oil, sealants, printer inks, primers, nitro enamels, etc.
  4. Flammable solids (magnesium, matches, sparklers), spontaneously combustible substances (fishmeal, napalm, coal, cotton, activated carbon), substances that react with water to release flammable gases (sodium, calcium carbide, aluminum powder).
  5. Oxidizing agents (bleaches, hydrogen peroxide, potassium or ammonium nitrate).
  6. Organic peroxides (hardeners of a certain type, components of white dye).
  7. Poisonous or toxic compounds that cause poisoning of the body, infectious diseases, death of humans or animals.
  8. Materials with increased radioactivity (isotopes used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, flaw detector heads, etc.).
  9. Substances that cause corrosion (acids, alkalis, fruit essences, mercury, batteries, battery electrolytes).
  10. Other hazardous substances in solid and liquid states that are flammable, fire hazardous, corrosive (garlic sauce, asbestos, lawn mowers, lithium batteries, dry ice).

The transportation of dangerous goods on airplanes, which are prohibited for transportation under any circumstances, is controlled by security authorities.

Prohibition on the transport of explosives

Airborne transportation of explosives is prohibited by the general rules of the Air Code of the Russian Federation. The list of these dangerous goods includes substances that are susceptible to fire and explosion due to dangerous reactions. They release heat in large quantities and gases of the following types:

  • corrosive;
  • flammable;
  • toxic.
  • introglycerin;
  • ammonal;
  • granitol;
  • TNT.
  • rockets;
  • grenades;
  • aviation bombs;
  • mines;
  • torpedoes;
  • detonators.

The third category includes objects whose transportation poses a risk of explosion. The Air Code of the Russian Federation states what is prohibited from being carried on an airplane. List of hazardous substances in this group:

  • powder;
  • fireworks;
  • fire cord;
  • pyrotechnic composition.

Ban on the transport of weapons

The legislation introduces criminal liability for transporting weapons and allows, in this case, to remove a passenger from a flight. The transportation of weapons must be issued with a special permit, which must be concluded by the passenger and the carrier before the flight.

To transport imitation weapons in the form of children's toys or souvenirs, the passenger must also have permission from the transport airline. Explosive substances, which include firearms, are separately prohibited.

Ban on gas transportation

Passenger airlines prohibit the transport of substances in a gaseous state that are flammable. Their list includes esters, varnishes, paints, alcohol-based mixtures, cartridges, and magnetized products.

The transportation of flammable gases in a compressed state, for example, gas lighters, liquefied gas cylinders, hydrogen, propane, butane, is prohibited. The Code stipulates that it is prohibited to carry various types of non-flammable, non-toxic gases on an airplane: air, carbon, nitrogen or oxygen, as well as toxic gases: mustard gas and chlorine. The rules do not allow the transportation of toxic substances or household chemicals.

Ban on transport of medical equipment

Attempts by passengers to transport equipment used for medical purposes are suppressed. You need to know that it is prohibited to carry objects with a certain level of radiation in airplane luggage and on board the aircraft as a whole, even in minimal quantities. Reagents used for medicinal purposes may be among the toxic illegal objects.

Conditions for transporting medicines

It is better to immediately transfer medications that the passenger plans to take with him on the flight to the luggage compartment. The transportation of medicines is under special control. Therefore, it is important to study in advance what is prohibited from carrying medications on an airplane in hand luggage.

If a transported drug is included in the list of illegal drugs, it will be confiscated by security officials. You are only allowed to take a standard first aid kit with you on board the plane.

Rules for transporting liquids

A separate group of liquids prohibited for carriage by airlines includes certain types of cosmetics. A container with liquid that is not prohibited from being carried in hand luggage on an airplane must have a volume of no more than 1 liter. It is better to package drinks in separate containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml.

Restrictions do not apply to medications in liquid form if there is a document confirming the need for their use. This also applies to baby food.

The main requirement regarding the transportation of alcoholic beverages to some foreign countries is associated with a complete ban on the transportation of this cargo. Such states include the UAE, Maldives, Saudi Arabia. Passengers must strictly comply with these requirements, since baggage in these countries is subject to thorough inspection by control authorities.

Carriage of alcohol-containing substances on an airplane

Before transporting alcohol-containing products on an airplane, it is important to study all the information about the rules for allowing such cargo on board. The rules for transporting alcoholic beverages in Russia and Europe are different. For example, knowing that it is prohibited to transport to Israel by plane, the client will take no more than 1 liter of strong alcoholic drink and no more than 2 liters of wine into the cabin.

If you take drinks with you without taking into account the restrictions, this may result in the imposition of penalties. Under no circumstances should minor passengers carry alcoholic beverages on board.

Particular attention must be paid to the quality of packaging for alcohol-containing drinks. The packaging must be original. It is placed in a sealed plastic bag with a zipper. Compliance with these rules is strictly checked before takeoff.

Rules for transporting alcohol on EU airlines

European airlines carry substances containing alcohol in accordance with the following requirements:

  • transportation of beer drinks is permitted in a total volume of no more than 16 liters;
  • It is permissible to transport drinks with an alcohol content of no more than 22 degrees in an amount of no more than 2 liters;
  • High strength alcohol is allowed for transportation in quantities of no more than 1 container;
  • Wine and wine-containing drinks can be transported in a volume of up to 4 liters.

Requirements for transporting alcohol in Russia

Those traveling by plane in Russia must comply with the following requirements when transporting alcoholic beverages:

  • It is allowed to take on board the aircraft no more than 5 liters of alcoholic beverage;
  • legal norms regulate that it is prohibited to carry only 3 liters of drinks containing alcohol free of charge on an airplane in hand luggage, and for the transportation of the rest you need to pay additional customs tax;
  • Transport of alcoholic beverages is allowed only in packaged form;
  • It is possible to transport alcohol in an acceptable quantity in hand luggage.

The requirements for the transportation of alcoholic beverages are justified, since the safety of passengers in flight depends on their compliance.

Carrying pets on board

Many airlines restrict passengers from transporting pets. Some carriers transport only dogs and cats, allowing small pets into the aircraft cabin. According to the rules, pets should be transported in a special travel container or basket.

To create normal conditions for transporting an animal, it is necessary to prepare a container that will not interfere with the pet’s physical activity. The coating material from the inside must absorb odors and moisture. The safety of transporting the animal is ensured by the presence of a reliable lock in the cage. The above rules apply when transporting pets in the aircraft cabin and in the baggage compartment.

What is allowed to be carried on board an aircraft?

Aircraft passengers have the right to carry checked hand luggage in the cabin. This includes personal bags, umbrellas, smartphones, photo and video equipment, and laptops. Disabled people with crutches or wheelchairs may not need to register their mobility aids before the flight.

The fact that medications will be needed during the flight must be documented. In this case, you can take them with you. It is better to exclude strong medications. It is important that they do not end up on the list of prohibited substances. If there is no urgent need for them, it is better for the passenger to refuse to carry these medications in hand luggage. Otherwise, the registration procedure will be complicated.

To avoid damaging an item of high value during the flight, it is better to take it into the cabin. This may also apply to musical instruments that are expensive. They must weigh no more than 32 kg, otherwise they will need to be checked in as checked baggage.

Regardless of the country, air carrier or class, the following items can be carried in hand luggage:

  • souvenirs;
  • keys;
  • money;
  • documents;
  • jewelry;
  • printed products;
  • children's toys without sharp corners.

If prohibited objects are detected on the territory of the country, the passenger will be removed from the flight and sent to law enforcement agencies. For beginners who have not studied what is prohibited from being transported on an airplane, transporting dangerous objects will not only result in a spoiled mood, but also a waste of time and money.

Aeroflot airlines allow free transportation of personal items in the hold and hand luggage. When planning a flight on a given carrier's aircraft, travelers should familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations for general baggage transported in the cargo hold.

In this article we will tell you what is allowed and prohibited for transportation in the luggage compartment of an Aeroflot aircraft on domestic and international flights.

What can you carry in the luggage compartment on an Aeroflot plane?

All passenger baggage placed in the cargo compartment of the aircraft for transportation to the chosen destination undergoes mandatory inspection at the airport of departure. During this procedure, it is registered and marked with a numbered tag with a tear-off spine. This part of the document is attached to the boarding pass. At the airport of arrival, the passenger presents this tag and picks up his luggage.

According to Aeroflot airline rules, travelers can carry any items not included in the list of prohibited items in general luggage. You should also take into account the standards for the number of bags, their dimensions and weight established by the carrier. You can familiarize yourself with the rules on baggage weight at Aeroflot.

Aeroflot operates a seat system, which provides a certain number of places for free transportation of passenger baggage.

Baggage allowances for passengers of different service classes:

  1. One free piece of luggage weighing no more than 23 kg is provided.
  2. Economy Premium ticket holders can carry two bags or two suitcases weighing up to 23 kg each on the plane for free.
  3. There are two places for the passenger's personal belongings. The weight limit for each bag is 32 kg.

The company also set baggage size limits. When measuring three sides (length, width and height), dimensions of 158 cm are allowed.

A passenger can carry additional items on the plane by paying for a separate piece of baggage according to the carrier’s tariffs. If the travel accessory is overweight or oversized, you will also have to pay extra for oversized luggage.

Transportation of bulky items, valuables and animals is carried out under special conditions, which require prior agreement with the carrier and mandatory compliance with all rules and requirements for the carriage of non-standard baggage.

What cannot be checked in luggage

You cannot carry items from the list of prohibited items in the luggage compartment as personal belongings. It is better to familiarize yourself with this list in advance, which will allow you to avoid unpleasant problems with security representatives at the airport.

What items cannot be carried on an airplane in general baggage:

  • liquefied and compressed gas, fuel mixtures, lighters and other explosive substances;
  • poisonous, poisonous, toxic elements;
  • radioactive materials;
  • flammable substances;
  • ammunition and weapons (requires official permission for transportation);
  • items of certain value to the state (export is possible only with permits);
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (explosive equipment);
  • lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 160 W/h;
  • mobile devices powered by lithium-ion batteries;
  • e-Sigs;
  • alcohol with a strength of over 70%;
  • perishable products;
  • dry ice (only by agreement with the carrier);
  • mercury thermometer;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • spray paint cans.

Rules for the carriage of certain types of baggage

Certain categories of goods and products are subject to special rules for transportation in general baggage. Some products have quantity or other restrictions. You should familiarize yourself with this information in advance.

Liquid

The “liquids” category includes drinks, dairy products, cheeses, baby food, deodorants and perfumes, cosmetics (creams, gels, mascara), toothpaste, canned food, aerosols and a number of medicines with a non-solid consistency.

Liquids in general baggage are transported in closed containers that are 100% full. Open, incompletely filled bottles of drinks, medicines and cosmetics are prohibited from being transported on an airplane.

Aerosols can be transported in special containers with safety valves with a volume of up to 500 ml. The norm per passenger is 2 liters.

Alcohol

Alcoholic drinks with an alcohol content of no more than 70% in original bottles with appropriate excise taxes and labels are accepted into the luggage compartment. You cannot carry homemade alcohol on the plane, as well as drinks with a strength of over 70 degrees.

The limit for transporting alcohol in luggage is determined in accordance with the rules of the carrier and the laws of the country chosen for travel (permitted import and export of alcohol).

On Aeroflot planes you can transport alcohol with an alcohol content of up to 24% in any volume, the main thing is not to exceed the general baggage weight limits.

For the carriage of alcoholic beverages with a strength of 24-70%, the maximum allowable limit per passenger is 5 liters.

Technique

You can carry household appliances as checked baggage on Aeroflot aircraft. Mobile vehicles, as well as other devices operating on lithium-ion batteries, are transported under special conditions.

According to the carrier's rules, a passenger can transport small-sized devices with lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of up to 160 Wh/h in general baggage. The battery must be located inside the equipment. Before departure, it must be discharged to at least 30%. Transportation of equipment operating on lithium-ion batteries is carried out only by prior agreement with the airlines.

Household appliances are transported according to general rules. The airline is not responsible for the integrity and safety of products during transportation. An exception is luggage with a declared value, marked “fragile” and insured. Aeroflot's rules for transporting non-standard baggage can be found here.

Piercing objects

In general luggage, a passenger can carry properly packed sharps and cutting objects, with the exception of edged weapons (knives, dirks, swords, etc.). Such instruments are subject to registration and can be included in general baggage only if all permits are available and upon prior agreement with the air carrier.

Sport equipment

Sports equipment is carried on Aeroflot aircraft as excess baggage for an additional fee. The company often organizes seasonal promotions, allowing its passengers to carry a set of sports equipment as additional luggage at no extra charge. Current offers can be tracked on the official Aeroflot portal.

Musical instruments

You can carry musical instruments in the luggage compartment of an aircraft in accordance with the general rules for the carriage of checked baggage. If the item being transported is larger or weighs more than the carrier's allowance, the traveler will have to pay the excess baggage rate.

Weapons and ammunition

Such items are prohibited for transportation on an airplane without permits. Preliminary agreement with the carrier is also required (no later than 36 hours before departure). Each type of weapon and ammunition has certain requirements and standards. For example, one passenger cannot carry more than 5 kg of ammunition on board.

The weapon is packaged in a special case or box. It must be unloaded during transportation. It is better to check the exact requirements for transporting a specific type of weapon or ammunition on an airplane at the Aeroflot call center.

Pets and birds

The airline allows pets and birds to be carried in the luggage compartment. During the flight they must be kept in special containers. The passenger needs to collect all the necessary documents for transporting the pet and coordinate this issue with the carrier.

Pets and birds are transported on board the aircraft for an additional fee according to the tariff for non-standard baggage. You can learn more about the rules for flying animals on Aeroflot planes.

When planning an air trip on an Aeroflot plane, be sure to study the rules for the carriage of general baggage and the norms for the class of service according to the tickets purchased. Comply with all carrier requirements for transporting certain items.

Before flying abroad, read the country's laws regarding the import or export of various goods. Having this information, you will be able to properly prepare things for transportation on an airplane without the risk of discussions and unnecessary problems with customs services.

The rules of international transportation imply certain restrictions on the carriage of baggage and hand luggage. To ensure a smooth flight, you need to know exactly what items you absolutely cannot take on board the aircraft.

You cannot take the following with you in your hand luggage on the plane:

  • sharp objects;
  • piercing objects;
  • hazardous substances;
  • liquids;
  • any weapons and explosives.

The transportation of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 purchased before September 2, 2016 is not allowed due to the explosion of several devices in the hands of users. Other brands of phones can be carried in hand luggage and in the luggage compartment without any problems.

Items that cannot be carried in a bag on board an aircraft include a manicure set made of metal objects, a lighter, knitting needles, a corkscrew, and a thermometer with mercury.

Items

In general, the rules for transporting items depend on the internal rules of the carrier company.

Traditionally, people take on board those items that are of the highest priority or even necessary:

  • keys;
  • money;
  • credit and debit cards;
  • passports;
  • valuable jewellery;
  • easily broken items;
  • documentation required for the flight.

Liquids

Any person has the right to take no more than 1 liter of liquid per person on the plane in hand luggage. However, each container cannot exceed 100 ml. The concept of “Liquid” in this case may include: shampoos, creams, aerosols, shaving foam and even cosmetics (mascara, liquid lipstick, foundation).

If the container contains 200 ml. There is only half of the shampoo left, it will not be possible to carry it on board: it is not the actual amount of liquid that is taken into account, but the volume of the bottle.

The 1 liter limit does not apply to:

  • food for babies;
  • specialized food for patients with a supporting certificate certified by the seal of a medical institution;
  • vital medications if documentation is available.

Why can't you take liquids with you?

You cannot carry liquids with a volume of more than 100 ml on an airplane because this meets safety regulations. The rule has been in effect since 2007 and is due to the fact that passengers managed to take flammable items such as alcohol, acetone and other toxic chemicals with them in their hand luggage, which pose an increased risk of fire. In cases where the container with a liquid substance exceeds 100 ml, it can, if desired, be used to create an explosive substance that poses a danger to passengers and crew members of the aircraft. In turn, 0.1 liter is quite enough to transport medications.

Medicines

The transportation of medicines must be approached responsibly, because in some countries, such as Thailand, the legislation provides for serious sanctions for the transport of drugs without manufacturer’s packaging. You need to study the local laws of the country of arrival and follow the requirements. If you have a medical prescription, it is advisable to take it with you: in case of controversial issues, it will be easier to prove your case with an official document than just with words.

If the drugs are not in tablets, but, for example, in gels, ampoules or in the form of a medical ointment, then they can be taken as a general rule of 100 ml.

To transport a larger volume of medicines, you need evidence: an epicrisis, a certificate from the attending physician, a prescription indicating the amount of the drug required and the timing of its administration. The more documentation is submitted, the higher the chances of transporting medicine in excess of the established norm.

Products

You cannot transport products whose export from the country is prohibited. For example, cheese and meat semi-finished products and finished products cannot be exported from Greece. You cannot take water with you, but you can often spot people who managed to take a 0.5 liter bottle with its contents. You can take an empty water bottle with you: the flight attendant will be happy to fill it at the passenger’s request.

You can take on the plane without any problems:

  • vegetables;
  • fruits;
  • chocolates;
  • bars;
  • chips;
  • sandwiches;
  • other solid products.

Honey

Many people who purchase exclusive products, incl. honey from rare exhibitions, they are wondering if it is possible to take it on board an aircraft. According to general rules, honey is classified as a liquid, and the transportation of such substances is limited to 100 ml.

Honey can only be supplied in micro containers of 0.1 ml and a maximum of 10 pieces. In addition, according to the rules for transporting liquids, such jars must be packed in sealed transparent packaging. If the permissible quantity is exceeded, the excess will be confiscated during inspection. The rules apply to most countries of the world, but before flying it is better to check the latest information on the carrier’s website.

If honey is not produced in the EU, then its import into countries such as Germany is prohibited.

Batteries

Rechargeable devices are allowed to carry batteries provided that they are located in the device, for example, in an automatic razor. The devices must be in good working order, otherwise they may be confiscated.

Allowed for flight:

  • alkaline batteries;
  • rechargeable batteries;
  • lithium batteries up to 160 W power.

The following are not allowed for transportation on an aircraft:

  • substances that may cause corrosion;
  • toxic chemicals;
  • highly toxic agents;
  • gases in any condition;
  • liquids and substances in a solid state that are prone to instantaneous combustion
  • weapon;
  • ammunition;
  • explosive elements;
  • materials exceeding the permissible level of radiation;
  • paralytic drugs;
  • lithium batteries;
  • equipment with such batteries, including electric scooters and scooters, Segways;
  • any items that pose a potential threat to human life and health.

You cannot take alcohol of more than 70% aging in your luggage, incl. ethyl alcohol, mercury thermometer, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, graffiti cans, any type of fuel - gasoline, diesel fuel, gas, Zippo lighters, electric gas burners, self-defense cans, matches, fireworks.

In order to avoid problems with the transportation of various items from other countries, it is necessary to familiarize yourself in detail with the rules of customs inspection. The laws of foreign countries may differ greatly from Russian ones.

What cannot be carried in airplane luggage is a question that worries many passengers. This question is more relevant than ever for those who use air transport for the first time. Today, there are detailed lists of items that passengers cannot carry on an airplane.

Each airline sets its own limits and standards, so before your flight you should carefully study the information on official sources and, if necessary, consult with airport staff.

According to statistics, the plane is one of the safest modes of transport. However, for a successful flight and to avoid unpleasant situations, the airline must take care of safety measures during the flight. They depend on the following factors:

  • Environmental factors.
  • Competent behavior of crew members and passengers.
  • Preparation of equipment before flight.

Safety rules do not bypass airplane passengers. Before and during the flight, they must follow a number of rules that reduce the likelihood of emergency situations. For example, a person must strictly observe the weight standards of luggage for transportation, turn off mobile devices, and remain calm.

What items are prohibited from being carried in checked and carry-on baggage?

Before your flight, you should familiarize yourself with the baggage requirements. Carry-on luggage is the suitcase or bag that a person takes with him into the aircraft cabin. Such things will be placed in a special shelf or under the passenger seat. Acceptable limits for hand luggage:

  • Weight no more than 12 kg.
  • Mandatory inspection of the contents by airport staff before takeoff.

Bags weighing up to 30 kg are placed in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. The restrictions do not end with checking the baggage weight limit. It is prohibited to carry the following items on the plane:

  • Weapons (firearms, cold steel, gas).
  • Explosives (dynamite, cartridges, smoke bombs, firecrackers).
  • Gaseous objects (cylinders, lighters, aerosols).
  • Flammable substances (acetone, menthol, kerosene, petroleum products).
  • Toxic items (nicotine, mercury, arsenic).
  • Substances that cause corrosion (salts, alkalis, resins).

It is also prohibited to carry radioactive substances and items that could damage the cargo in the luggage compartment. Your hand luggage should not contain:

  • Stabbing and cutting objects (knives, scissors, corkscrew).
  • Small-sized vehicles (scooter, hoverboard).

It is prohibited to take on the plane dummies that resemble weapons in appearance. The same rule applies to children's toys. You cannot carry flammable substances, flammable liquids, weapons or sharp objects in both hand luggage and the luggage compartment.

Items that can be carried in the luggage compartment of an aircraft

In the luggage compartment and hand luggage you can carry all those things that do not pose any risk to flight passengers. These include:

  • Personal belongings of the passenger (clothing, perfume, personal hygiene products).
  • Cosmetic products. In this case, all products must be packaged in sealed bags or containers.
  • Products. To transport food you need to have special containers. Otherwise, the person may not be allowed on board the plane.
  • Baby food. Mixtures and cereals should also be tightly packed.
  • A child seat, if its dimensions do not exceed the size of an airplane seat.
  • Wheelchairs for disabled people and crutches.
  • Alcohol products, cigarettes. It is worth considering that there are quantity restrictions on such products.
  • Phones, tablets, computers. However, during the takeoff of the airliner, all equipment will have to be turned off.
  • Sport equipment.
  • Medicines. They must be packaged and not banned in many countries.
  • Jewelry and decorations.
  • Books, notebooks, folders with documents.
  • Pets. Provided that they are placed in a special cage or carrier.

If any items do not fit into the established framework or are suspicious, you need to be prepared for inspection by airport staff.

List of items that are not allowed to be carried in the cabin of the aircraft

Carry-on luggage is those things that a person may need during the flight. Therefore, these items must be safe for all passengers on the ship. The list of prohibited items changes annually and depends on the specific airline. Today the following items are not allowed on the plane:

  • Weapon.
  • Flammable liquids.
  • Explosive products.
  • Toxic substances.
  • Oxidizing liquids.

The list of prohibited items for flights also includes quite harmless items:

  • Corkscrew.
  • Nailfile.
  • Tweezers for plucking eyebrows.
  • Razor.
  • Manicure set.

If inadmissible items are found, the person will not be allowed on board the aircraft. In addition, a forced inspection may be arranged for him, which is considered not the most pleasant action towards a citizen.

Impossibility of transporting firearms and their replicas in the aircraft cabin

A person who does not have permission to store and transport weapons is prohibited from transporting firearms. The same rule applies to dummies that resemble weapons, knives, and swords in appearance. Therefore, you should not take juvenile toys with you on board. Otherwise, the situation will result in a thorough interrogation, check and cancellation of the flight.

If it is necessary to carry a weapon, a person must notify airline employees in advance. The passenger will need to present a permit and also appear for check-in at the airport 2-3 hours before departure. A person must hand over his weapon to an airport employee for the duration of the flight. After arriving at the destination, the passenger will receive all his belongings back.

Items that can be carried in the luggage compartment of an aircraft subject to restrictions

Some items can be carried on the plane, but under certain conditions set by the airline. For example:

  • Alcoholic products may be present on board an aircraft only if they are in sealed packaging. In this case, there should be no more than 5 liters of drink per passenger, and its strength should be in the range of 24-70%.
  • Medicines, thermometer. You are allowed to carry medications that are not recognized as prohibited in many countries around the world. The list changes regularly; you can find the information on the carrier’s official website 1-2 days before departure. The thermometer must be in a special case.
  • Baby strollers are allowed to be taken up the ramp, after which they are sent to the luggage compartment of the aircraft.
  • Professional equipment. Allowed to be carried with special permission, and the passenger can carry no more than 1 spare battery for gadgets.

Products (perfumes, drinks) purchased at Duty Free must be packaged in plastic containers or bags bearing the store logo. You also need to have a receipt with you.

Conditions for transporting liquids

If it is necessary to transport liquid products, it must be taken into account that its volume should not exceed 1 liter. You can take to the salon:

  • Plain and mineral water.
  • Drinks, juices, cocktails.
  • Shampoos.
  • Creams.
  • Cosmetic sprays.

Cosmetic products are also considered liquids. You can bring on the plane:

  • Mascara.
  • Nail polish.
  • Powder, foundation.
  • Lip gloss.

It is worth considering that the volume of each individual container should not exceed 100 ml. Otherwise, the person will have to leave things at the airport or cancel the flight. Baby food falls under the exception category. If a child requires more formula than 1 liter during a flight, airport staff will allow the liquid to be transported in larger volumes.

All tubes and containers with mixtures and cosmetic products must be carefully packaged and placed in special containers. You can buy them at stationery stores. Today, special sealed travel kits are also sold that meet all necessary standards. They contain personal hygiene products, water, and some medications.

Special permission to transport prohibited items. What requirements must be met?

In order to bring certain substances or things onto the plane, you must have special permission. This can be done in multifunctional centers or at the airport. Most often, permission is given when it is necessary to transport batteries whose power reaches 160 Wh. However, it is permissible to transport such items only in the luggage compartment.

A permit will also be required for weapons. It's a little more difficult to get. To do this, a person needs to notify the carrier in advance about the situation that has arisen. To check in for a flight, you will have to arrive at the airport several hours in advance, and you will need to pack your weapon in a safe case or box. Before the flight, the passenger gives it to the airport employee, receives a special certificate and, when landing at the destination, presents it to pick up personal belongings.

Where are the seized items sent?

Those seized items that are of no value to the passenger are thrown away by airport employees. In other cases, personal items are stored and returned after boarding. What methods of preservation exist:

  • Reseption. Here you can consult with the operator and place all your things in the storage room. If necessary, luggage will be sent by mail to the specified address. If items that are permissible to be kept in the airliner’s luggage are removed from your hand luggage, they are transferred to the luggage compartment.
  • Prohibited items that are confiscated in hand luggage can be collected after the trip. But for this you will need to sign a special act indicating permission to store any things.
  • If prohibited items are found in the luggage compartment after check-in for a flight, the owner of the bags will be informed about this and will undergo a thorough inspection. In such cases, items can be left at the airport after signing a special act.

If airport employees find unregistered weapons, ammunition and dangerous substances, the police will be immediately informed about the situation. In this case, the irresponsible passenger will be removed from the flight and sent to the police station for questioning.

How to avoid unpleasant situations during inspection

To avoid getting into awkward situations during check-in, you must follow the following rules:

  • Before departure, you need to carefully study all the transportation rules specified by a particular airline. You can find them on official sources on the Internet.
  • Leave all liquid items in your luggage and suitcases, and take only the most necessary products for hand luggage.
  • The day before the flight, measure the volume of the prepared containers and pour the liquid into smaller containers if the norm of 1 liter is exceeded.
  • When purchasing goods from Duty Free, you do not need to open them before leaving the plane.
  • When transporting medications necessary to maintain a stable condition of the patient, you must have a doctor's certificate with you.
  • If medications contain narcotic elements, you must provide airport employees with a prescription in Latin.

Transportation of bulky items

It is permissible to transport large items on board aircraft. For example, household appliances or musical instruments. However, you will have to pay money for exceeding the weight limit. The exact amount depends on the tariff plan of a particular carrier. All items must be carefully packed, this will help prevent damage to the cargo.

The list of large items permitted for transportation can be found on the website of the selected airline or from a specialist at the airport. It is worth taking into account all the carrier’s requirements in order to avoid unforeseen problems and not delay the plane before departure.

What is prohibited to take on a plane. Hand luggage and baggage:

In our hand luggage we usually take everything that may be useful to us on the road, from documents to entertainment during the flight. Moreover, sometimes this is the only bag or suitcase that a traveler can take with him.

You need to pack carefully, and not only because the dimensions of hand luggage are limited. It is very important not to accidentally take something that is not allowed in your hand luggage on a plane - and this is a very long list.

The meaning of some prohibitions is obvious, others seem ridiculous: why can’t you take water on a plane, why can you read in flight, but not knitting?

But in fact, all bans are dictated by safety considerations and are often introduced after emergency incidents on board. There are known cases when terrorists created explosives already in flight, bringing individual components on board, and used improvised means to threaten the crew and passengers.

Our review contains all the information that will probably be useful to a traveler:

  • how much liquid can be carried on an airplane;
  • how to transport medicines;
  • is it possible to take food on a plane;
  • Is it allowed to take baby food with you?

Knowing the answers to these questions, you will easily get ready for the trip.

List of prohibited items on the plane

The list of items that are prohibited from being carried in checked luggage and in hand luggage is noticeably different. Baggage requirements are less stringent: you cannot carry obviously dangerous things (explosives, ammunition, drugs, flammable, caustic and toxic substances). There are much more requirements for hand luggage, although here the safety of passengers comes first.

Here is a general list of what you can’t take on board an airplane as hand luggage:

  • explosive, toxic, flammable, caustic substances - these include an ordinary mercury thermometer and nail polish remover;
  • weapons, including souvenir and prop weapons (however, you can carry weapons in your luggage, so put a child’s machine gun or a pistol-shaped lighter in your suitcase);
  • piercing and cutting objects - these include scissors, files, razors, syringe needles, knitting needles and crochet hooks, metal table knives and forks, corkscrews, construction tools;
  • liquids with a volume of more than 100 ml (for details and exceptions, see the section “Carrying liquids in hand luggage”).

Detailed lists, often accompanied by infographics, can be found on the websites of airports and air carriers.

Airports have the right to soften or tighten the rules for carrying hand luggage. Increased security measures are resorted to on the eve of significant events (festivals, sporting competitions) or in connection with the threat of terrorist attacks.

Regulations in different countries allow airport authorities to introduce additional security requirements.

For example, Appendix No. 1 to the Rules for Pre-Flight and Post-Flight Inspections (RF)* states that Russian airports may prohibit taking knitting needles and nail scissors with a blade length of up to 6 cm into the aircraft cabin.

At the same time, some travelers confirm that they successfully passed security checks with such items in their hand luggage.

Many states, airports and airlines have additional lists of what items cannot be taken on planes. We recommend that you find out before your flight whether there are any special restrictions on transportation, so as not to run into trouble during check-in for the flight and going through security.

Carrying liquids in hand luggage

There are many reasons to carry liquids in your hand luggage. This includes water for drinking (passengers are not fed and watered on every flight), and antiseptic, and hand cream, and toothpaste, and a bottle of medicine. You will be allowed to take all this with you if you follow the rules for transporting liquids in hand luggage.

Firstly, Liquids, from the point of view of air transportation rules, are considered to be:

  • body and hair care products, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving foam, etc.;
  • decorative cosmetics;
  • perfumes and eau de toilette;
  • medicines in the form of syrups, solutions, drops, etc.;
  • some food products (drinking water, soup, puree, pate, yogurt, cottage cheese, soft cheeses, fish roe, preserves, jams, jellies, honey, canned food);
  • alcohol.
Secondly, there is a volume limitation. The volume of liquid carried in hand luggage must not exceed 100 ml.

This means that water, antiseptic, shampoo, juice must be in individual packaging of up to 100 ml. If you take a large bottle of shampoo that is only partially filled, the shampoo will have to be thrown away at the airport.

Thirdly, the general The volume of liquids in hand luggage is no more than 1 liter. In this case, all bubbles and bags with liquid must be placed in one transparent plastic bag. At the airport, this package is checked separately from other things.

The rules for carrying liquids in hand luggage do not apply to baby food, medicines and goods purchased at Duty Free. Although here you need to know the features:

  • medicines can be carried in the amount that you need for the duration of the flight (if you are flying with a transfer, feel free to calculate the total duration of the journey);
  • in Duty Free stores, all goods are packed in a transparent plastic bag, a receipt is also placed there, and all this must remain packed throughout the flight;
  • The amount of baby food should also be calculated for the duration of the flight - the rest of the baby food that you don’t dare pack in your luggage will need to be handed over at the check-in counter: it will be carried in the aircraft cabin.

Read more about the nuances of transporting liquids in hand luggage on an airplane in the following sections.

As for drinking water, many travelers take an empty bottle with them and fill it with water from drinking fountains after going through security. If you are still not allowed to carry an empty bottle, the losses will be minimal.

Is it possible to take food on board the plane?

Taking food on a plane is advisable, and in some cases necessary. Even if the flight itself does not last long, you will have to spend two hours at the airport before departure, and even after landing you will not immediately have the opportunity to eat properly.

In addition, low-cost airlines do not include on-board meals in the ticket price. This means it’s worth taking a light snack or a full lunch with you on the road.

The question of whether it is possible to bring food on a plane has now been decided unequivocally - it is possible. To avoid starvation on the road, bring sandwiches, dried fruits, nuts, cookies, and candies. You are allowed to take fresh vegetables and fruits into the cabin, but it is advisable to take a little of them to eat during the flight.

Perishable foods should be placed in a thermal bag and eaten first. It is not recommended to take food with a strong smell.

What you can take on a plane from food for babies:

  • baby food in jars;
  • baby water;
  • breast milk or breast milk substitute in bottles;
  • boiled vegetables and meat without broth;
  • cookie.

If you are planning to bring food with you other than to eat it on the road, be sure to check what import and export restrictions exist in the countries of departure and destination.

Thus, you will not be allowed into EU countries with meat products, and the law is similarly strict for dairy products (the ban does not apply to baby food). There are special bans on the export of food in the countries of Southeast Asia - there you cannot take durian, watermelons, or coconuts on the plane. In Vietnam, Nuoc Mam sauce is banned.

As a rule, alcohol can only be taken on board an airplane if it was purchased at a Duty Free store. Appendix No. 1 to the Rules for Pre-flight and Post-Flight Inspections (RF)* stipulates that alcohol can be transported in luggage, but nothing is said about hand luggage. The rules for air transportation of passengers and baggage (Ukraine)** contain the same rule.

Meanwhile, difficulties may arise with transporting Duty Free goods in hand luggage. For example, alcohol purchased outside the Schengen area may not be allowed to be transported into EU countries. Be prepared for the fact that when transferring at an airport in any EU country, you will be asked to put alcohol in your luggage.

It is also worth considering that in most countries there is a certain limit on the import and export of alcohol; these also need to be taken into account. Thus, you cannot bring more than 1 liter of alcohol into Egypt and Thailand, and the amount in your luggage and hand luggage is taken into account. The import of alcohol into Saudi Arabia is prohibited.

Cosmetics and personal care products

A neat cosmetic bag in hand luggage can also become the subject of attention of customs officers. You will be surprised, but there are also liquids there: mascara, lip gloss, foundation.

And liquids on board the plane, as we have already found out, can only be carried in a separate transparent bag, in containers up to 100 ml, with a total volume of no more than 1 liter.

Perfume and eau de toilette can be carried in hand luggage on an airplane if they meet the liquid standards. Feel free to take a 50-ml bottle of perfume in your hand luggage, and it’s better to put a large package of eau de toilette in your luggage.

The decision to carry knitting needles, embroidery needles, and nail scissors in hand luggage is made by airport administrations. They have the right to prohibit the carriage of such items, so it is better to pack them in your luggage.

Let's give some tips on how to collect cosmetics to freely take them on board the aircraft.

  1. Do not throw away the shampoo and gel packaging provided by the hotel. Small bottles will come in handy on your next travels.
  2. You can buy a special travel kit for the plane: it is a transparent bag with small bottles and jars up to 100 ml. You can pour shampoo, body gel, micellar water, tonic, cream into them. These are reusable packages and you can reuse them.
  3. In a transparent bag, which you will show during inspection, place mascara, lip gloss, foundation, skincare products, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, perfume or eau de toilette.
  4. Place a manicure set, nail polishes and nail polish remover in your luggage, and if necessary, put a nail clipper (nail clippers) and a soft file in your hand luggage.

Is it possible to carry medications on an airplane?

Experienced travelers always take a first aid kit with medications for emergencies and chronic diseases on the road. But you need to take into account that not all medicines are, in principle, allowed to be imported into other countries, and not all medical devices can be taken into the cabin. Let's figure out what you can and can't take on a plane.

The general rule is that you can carry medications in your carry-on luggage if you need to take them while traveling. Have a prescription or medical certificate confirming this need. Let us remind you that the restriction on the transportation of liquids also applies to medicines.

Customs regulations in different countries allow you to carry liquid medications in containers larger than 100 ml in your hand luggage if you need to take them while traveling.

Make sure that the medications are in their original container (do not put them in another bottle to save space) and that they have not expired.

Another restriction concerns the transportation of psychotropic (narcotic) drugs. This category includes tranquilizers, and in addition to them - strong painkillers, antitussives containing codeine, antibiotics, pseudoephedrine-based vasoconstrictors, antihistamines containing chlorphenamine maleate, and some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Questions may arise even when transporting alcohol tinctures.

If you really need to carry one of these medications, confirm this need with a prescription from a doctor, even if the drug is over-the-counter, a receipt from the pharmacy and instructions (preferably in English).

In addition, before your flight, check what restrictions on the import of medicines exist in the country where you are going or where you will be connecting.

It is advisable for a tourist with diabetes to have a medical certificate in order to freely transport insulin preparations, syringes, insulin pens, a glucometer, an alcohol solution, special food, etc. in hand luggage.

Try to take a minimum of medications in your hand luggage. During the flight, if the need arises, you can ask the flight attendants for medicine: there is a first aid kit on every plane.

Another common question from parents who travel with children: is it possible to take a mercury thermometer on a plane? Air travel regulations in different countries say that a mercury thermometer can only be carried in luggage.

You are allowed to carry an electronic or infrared thermometer in your hand luggage. If you don't have one, you can count on a thermometer in your on-board first aid kit.

If you are traveling with children

Families traveling with children have to take much more stuff with them than adult tourists. The airlines understand this and accommodate young travelers. If you are flying with a child under two years of age, you will be able to take a few more items into the cabin, in addition to hand luggage:

  • cradle for sleeping;
  • folding stroller;
  • baby food in jars for the entire duration of the holiday, and not just for the duration of the flight.

To carry baby food in the cabin, you need to agree in advance with the air carrier. In this case, the baby food will be processed as fragile luggage, and it will not be carried in the luggage compartment, but in the aircraft cabin.
