It is part of the Kramatorsk agglomeration.

According to the current version, the name of the city Druzhkovki associated with the name of the Zaporozhye Cossack Druzhko, who founded a guard post on the banks of the Torets River to protect the southern borders of the Russian Empire from Tatar raids.

The village of Druzhkovka was formed during the reign of Catherine II after the local lands were granted to the commander of the Astrakhan Dragoon Regiment, Colonel Nikolai Yakovlevich Arshenevsky, in 1778.

The city grew out of a workers' settlement at the Druzhkovka station of the Kursk-Kharkov-Azov railway, which arose in the 70s of the 19th century.

In 1893, the Donetsk Society of Iron and Steel Production, founded by the French, began to build the Toretsk Metallurgical Plant, which was later transformed into the Druzhkovka Machine-Building Plant.

By the beginning of the 20th century, the following factories operated in Druzhkovka:

  • iron smelter,
  • steel mill (main product - rails, built by the French),
  • mechanical plant (equipment for railways: cars, springs, springs, built by the Belgians),
  • sugar factory (built in 1873).

By 1913, many peasants from the Oryol and Kursk provinces moved to the village. Residents were served by two hospitals and four primary schools. There were two churches and a church in the village.

During the first five-year plans the following were built:

  • the largest hardware plant in the USSR (1929),
  • power station,
  • new workshops at the Toretsky plant.

After reconstruction, the Toretsky plant named after Voroshilov became a large coal engineering enterprise (by 1941, more than 5 thousand people worked here).

In 1938, Druzhkovka received the status of a city of regional subordination. By 1939, Druzhkovka had a hospital and 4 paramedic stations, 8 secondary schools, a workers' faculty, an evening department of a mechanical engineering college, a cinema, two clubs, and a stadium.

At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the machine-building plant was evacuated to the Urals, and the hardware plant to Kuzbass.

On October 22, 1941, the Nazis captured Druzhkovka. During the two years of occupation by the Nazis, 1,130 people were brutally tortured and 1,214 people were sent to Germany. Druzhkovka was liberated on September 6, 1943 by units of the 279th Rifle Division and the 1st Guards Mechanized Brigade of the 1st Guards Mechanized Corps. Every year on these days the City Day of Druzhkovka is celebrated.

After the Great Patriotic War the following were built:

  • building materials plant (1954),
  • gas equipment plant (1958),
  • porcelain factory (1971),
  • mine management (1961). In connection with the reorganization of the mine management in 1971, an independent enterprise for the extraction of refractory clays, the Veselovsky mine, was spun off.

A road bridge was built across the Krivoy Torets River.

In 1968, in honor of the 75th anniversary, the machine-building plant was named after the 50th anniversary of Soviet Ukraine, and on February 13, 1971, the company’s staff was awarded the Order of Lenin.

The mayor remains the man who helped the militants.

Part of Donbass, which was liberated from the occupiers six months ago, continues to suffer from the separatists. In dozens of cities and towns, they called for a pseudo-refendum and persecuted everything Ukrainian, the story says.

Thus, in the city of Druzhkovka, Donetsk region, the local newspaper is still printed in occupied Donetsk, and Ukrainian activists in free territory must meet almost underground. In particular, the dean of one of the local technical schools, Viktor Bashenny, meets pro-Ukrainian activists within the walls of the institution only in the evening after classes. And this despite the fact that Druzhkovka was liberated six months ago, although everything Ukrainian here is still considered hostile and persecuted by the authorities.

City council member and school director Tatyana Kulik claims that in the city “there are a bunch of oppositionists who reproach the authorities.” But all the main local separatists since the days of the “DPR” occupy leadership positions. This is the mayor of Druzhkovka Valery Gnatenko. At pro-Russian rallies, he advocated raising the Russian flag at the city council. It was thanks to the authorities that terrorists entered the city. It all started last winter, when at one of the rallies Gnatenko shouted that almost demons had gathered on the Maidan. In February 2014, a small group of Druzhkovka residents came out to remember those innocently shot in the center of Kyiv, but they were attacked by local “titushki”. And already in March, Mayor Gnatenko began campaigning for Russia. At the end, the tricolor rises above the City Council, and citizens are called to a referendum. The first press conference of the leaders of the so-called “Novorossiya” began in the Druzhkovsky Palace of Pioneers, which was attended by all officials of the city executive committee.

However, today a concert is being held in the same palace for the Ukrainian military. Mayor Gnatenko does not hesitate to go on stage and shout “Glory to the Heroes.”

“Druzhkovka is part of Ukraine and will be part of it forever,” says Valery Gnatenko, who shakes hands with the soldiers. True, they don’t believe the mayor and his officials. According to the security forces, if a person betrayed once, then she will do it a second time.

According to the mayor of Druzhkovka, he agreed to cooperate with the separatists because he supposedly could not leave people alone in trouble. He explains that he raised the enemy flag over the city at the risk of his life. Although there was a threat there, because there was not a single machine gunner in the video.

But there are those in the city who were not afraid to go against the separatists and traitorous officials. This, in particular, is local pensioner Anatoly Vodolazsky. During the days of the “DPR” he came out with the Ukrainian flag to the monument to Lenin. But he could only stand there for 10 minutes, because the militants took him away.

“I was traveling on minibus No. 121, and in that building (pointing to the city council) there was Valery Sergeevich Gnatenko, who received the terrorists. He almost kissed them,” the man recalls.

He was kept in the local Gestapo for several days and severely beaten. The man was found soon. The executioners were at first going to shoot him, but then they brutally beat him, leaving not a single tooth. He managed to free himself miraculously when the militants forced the prisoners to load sand for checkpoints.

Nobody wrote about the husband’s courage in the local press then. At the same time, the municipal publication “Druzhkovsky Rabochiy” was issued for some time with the “DPR” flag. At that time, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Boris Yuzhik, defended the ideas of terrorists at meetings in the city executive committee. The publication wrote that Ukraine never had its own statehood. Today, half a million hryvnia is allocated in the city budget to finance this newspaper. Yuzhik claims that he published the newspaper under duress, and the militants kept him in the basement for four days.

According to the head of the Druzhkovsk police, 25 people are currently on the wanted list, 30 people who stood at checkpoints for terrorists who committed crimes have been arrested. But not a single official, including the mayor, was punished for separatism.

In addition, it became known that before the broadcast of the story, the “1+1” channel disappeared from the local cable network. Everyone with whom correspondent Galina Sergeeva spoke claims that this is the mayor’s team, he is afraid of losing his position. The channel's broadcasting was restored only in the evening, but the most interested viewers were not able to see the story. What happened and whether such a targeted operation was accidental is being clarified.
