Spain costa brava malgrat de mar. Spanish holidays. Malgrat de Mar is a sunny town by the sea. Entertainment and attractions in Malgrat de Mar

Now more and more Russians choose the coast of Spain for their holidays. I recently saw statistics from last year - Spain took 6th place in the number of tourist trips from Russia (after Turkey, Egypt, Greece, China and Thailand). This is not surprising - in this most interesting country, luxurious beaches of the Mediterranean are combined with monuments of world cultural heritage. And one more thing - Spain is now actively giving half- and annual multiple visas to Russians.

And so, we again decided to spend our vacation in Spain. We were wondering where exactly to choose a hotel, I would like to find a small cozy town. And this time our choice fell on Malgrat de Mar - a sunny town in the suburbs of Barcelona, near the blue, blue Mediterranean Sea.

Why did you choose him? For a number of its advantages. It is close to both Barcelona and Girona. Nice, clean beaches. And the border with France is very close.

This part of the Mediterranean Sea is considered the Balearic Sea, and the coast belongs to the Costa del Maresme and lies south of the Costa Bravo.

The town itself is small, you can get around it in a day if you wish. On one side, the town of Santa Susanna adjoins Malgrat de Mar (we went there on foot, the cities practically merge with each other); on the other side, but further away, is Blanes.

The city is conventionally divided into two parts - the historical (or “old town”), and the modern, built up with hotels.

What everyone immediately recommends to see in the town is the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, built in the 16th century, where Catholic services are still held.

Of course, I couldn’t take photographs during the service, but I was able to capture the inside of the cathedral at another time.

Very close to the cathedral there is a hill on top of which there is a picturesque Castell park.

You can climb the hill on a special free cable car that runs on rails.

Even from the window of the funicular you can see a beautiful view of the old city.

I always love photographing trees. And it's clearly worth it.

And more about the town.

There are no tall buildings in Malgrat de Mar, if only a few hotels. Most buildings are no higher than five floors.

The main street, running along the railway and the beach, is always full of tourists. There you can meet street artists, performers, and numerous souvenir sellers.

What hotel guides always warn about is that this street is full of touring thieves from different countries, and that you need to be very careful about your bags and pockets. Yes, vigilance never hurts anywhere :)

// maks-shatov.livejournal.com

What can tourists do without souvenirs? But no way. Moreover, souvenirs are sold from a variety of countries and peoples :)

// maks-shatov.livejournal.com

One of the fashionable entertainments for tourists is aquariums with special fish that bite the old skin of the feet. This is such an intricate fish peeling.

And below is a monument near the railway station. Apparently, one of the prominent residents of the town :)

// maks-shatov.livejournal.com

It takes just over an hour to get to the center of Barcelona by train. The train runs every 20-30 minutes.

// maks-shatov.livejournal.com

Traveling by train is not difficult there. You buy a ticket at the ticket office or machine, put it in the turnstile - and off you go :) A ticket to Barcelona cost about 5 euros. In the surrounding area - from 2x.

Taxis there are expensive; to Barcelona airport they charge more than 100 euros.

The train inside is quite convenient and comfortable.

We present a new article about Malgrat de Mar - the fastest growing resort on the Mediterranean coast of Spain.

What do people go to Malgrat de Mar for?

The tourist season in the ancient seaside town begins in April and lasts until October. The coast of the resort with its huge beaches stretching along the city promenade and calm sea makes Malgrat de Mar a great place for families with young children.

In the so-called “Old Town” you can admire the beauty of historical monuments: the church of Sant Nicolau de Bari, built in the 16th century, the Torre d'en Riera tower - a unique and spectacular structure of the 16th-17th centuries and magnificent palaces, villas, built in the Art Nouveau architectural style at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.

A modern area with many restaurants, bars, and nightclubs has been built in the “New City,” among which Tropicana - the most famous club on the coast, and hotels.

There's never a dull moment during the day, especially on the lively Passea Maritim promenade, where there are numerous cafes and small shops, and in the evenings you can go to open-air discos and watch a fireworks show.

But parents should not worry about this: late evening discos are held in closed disco clubs, and relative calm reigns on the central streets.

How to get there

From Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities you need to buy a ticket to El Prat Airport. Cheap tickets to Barcelona from Moscow You can buy by studying the current airline offers:

If you have not purchased a tourist package that includes transfer from the airport and back, you can get from Barcelona to the resort center by commuter train – the main means of transport on the coast, which stops in all resort towns, including the town of Salou, which we talked about in the last one.

The distance between Barcelona and Malgrat de Mar is 60 km. Train intervals are approximately 30 minutes.

Advantages of an individual taxi transfer:

  • you need to know that if your plane arrives at night, public transport does not work, so you will have to either spend the night at the airport or hire a taxi, but then the notorious language barrier arises, taxi drivers do not speak Russian and speak very little or no English;
  • you will be met at Barcelona airport with a sign with your name;
  • will track your flight and wait if it is delayed;
  • You will be assigned a Russian-speaking driver who will help you load your luggage;
  • you will go straight to the hotel, saving time and effort especially for children, because in the case of a group transfer along the coast, all tourists will be transported on a bus and it is not a fact that your turn will be first.

Accordingly, from Malgrat de Mar you can also travel by train to other resort centers. The distance from Malgrat de Mar to Calella is 7 km, to Girona – 45 km.

You can also get to Calella by taxi for about 16 €, to Girona for about 75 € and to Lloret de Mar for 25 €.

Instead of buying one-time tickets all the time, you can purchase a 10-trip pass (bonotren), which will be cheaper.

Beaches

Along the entire seaside town there is a beach covered with coarse yellow-golden sand, under the general name Malgrat de Mar with an approximate length of 4 km and a width of 50 m, which is divided into the following beaches

  • Tropic Park
  • Central (marked with the Blue Flag for environmental friendliness and livability).

Malgrat de Mar Hotels

The seaside town is dominated by 3-star hotels hotels that are aimed at families with children.

Amaraigua 4*

The hotel is located on the seashore, 80 m from the bus stop, 400 m from the railway station and the city center.

Fergus Maripins 4*

The hotel with 4 buildings and 200 rooms is located 150 m from the sea, next to a bus stop, bars, restaurants, a sports center and shops.

Also, couples for holidays with children opt for such hotels as: Reymar 3*, Reymar Playa 3*, Rosa Nautica 3* and Sorra D’or Beach Club 3*.

If the weather is bad, being on the beach is tiring, the shops are closed for siesta and you don’t know what else to see in Malgrat de Marv, there is a great solution. Go yourself, with your children, to Francesca Macia City Park(Parc Francesc Macia).

It is located on the outskirts of the town, a 15-20 minute walk from the main hotels. It is very easy to find it on the map.

The park is very popular with local residents - on weekends, families with provisions come en masse to have fun. I must say that the park area is ideal for this - in the shade of the trees there are large tables with benches.

For children There are funny sculptures throughout the park in the form of fly agaric mushrooms, daisies, huge shoes with a book on top, pencils, etc. And in the evenings, the Spaniards hold interesting competitions and unusual installations. What is good news is that entrance to Francesca Macia Park is completely free.

The resort is very popular among travelers from Northern Europe as it always hosts the Costa Brava Football Cup in October.

The city itself is divided into two parts: one is the most touristy, it is located near the sea, and it is in this part that numerous hotels, entertainment centers and apartments for tourists are being built. In the old part there are all the schools, gardens, city hall and establishments where the majority of pensioners relax.

To relax in Malgrate, you need to take a flight to Barcelona or Girona. There are buses from these cities to the resort, and for a more comfortable trip you can rent a car.

The largest variety of entertainment gathered near the beach called Tropic Park.

Astillero stretches for about a kilometer, along it there are hotels, summer bars and restaurants right on the sand, and there are also picnic areas. La Conca Beach is considered the longest; it occupies 2600 meters along the seashore. A big plus is the distance from urban areas, and therefore it is ideal for those who love wild beaches.

Attractions

There are no attractions in the new part of the city, since everything here is being developed for tourists. There are many not only hotels, but also bars, restaurants, clubs, souvenir shops and everything that tourists need for a relaxing holiday.
The most interesting place in the Old Town is Church of St. Nicholas, it dates back to the 16th century and is located in the heart of the city.

Also popular Torre d'en Riera tower, which was also built in the 16th century. In addition, this part of the city is home to many palaces and villas built in the Art Nouveau style in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

tower Torre_d'en_Riera

There are other places near the city where it is worth going to explore the local beauty. For example, you can go to Santa Susanna, and the journey will only take about 7 minutes by train. In this town you can see many old stone houses belonging to wealthy citizens. It's great to rent a bike here and ride around the area.

Entertainment and shopping

As already noted, most entertainment is located in the New Town, here there is something for every taste. There are cafes, restaurants, bars, entertainment centers, and a sailing school. The most famous is considered Club Tropicana, in general, there are other closed disco clubs where you can have fun until the morning. During the day you can simply wander around the souvenir shops and shops; there are also good shops with fashionable clothes.

One of the best shops can be called VLadImIr where you can shop at reasonable prices.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

It would seem, in this Mediterranean town. which is located at the junction of the Costa Maresme and Costa Brava, there is nothing interesting, and for the sights you need to go to Barcelona, which is conveniently connected to Malgrat de Mar by railway with electric trains sneaking quietly, like a cat... Yes, in an hour with a little you can easily get to the capital of Catalonia... but don't rush...

Don’t rush because this town has its own charm, a kind of “discreet charm of the bourgeoisie”... Of course, the sea and 4.5 km of Malgrata beaches (Astillero, La Conca and Central) are attraction number 1, it is no coincidence that this town is so loved by tourists from England and Germany. After the beach, it is very pleasant to walk along the Passei Maritim embankment, look at the vibrant life of the coastal area of \u200b\u200bnew Malgrat with its hotels and discos, and take a breath of invigorating Mediterranean air. But Malgrat de Mar is not only beaches and hotels. Go to the historical city, see the medieval church of Sant Nicolau de Bari, it seems to me that it is from the 16th century, admire the Torre d'en Riera tower, notice how beautiful the mansions of the 19-20th century are, how elaborate and beautiful in their pretentious Art Nouveau style... A mini-train runs through the town, where for a dozen euros and in an hour you will travel the entire town, but it is better to walk through it slowly... There are two natural parks in Malgrat de Mar, climb the hill to Castel Park and you will have a breathtaking view of the already dear, so sweet and cozy Malgrat de Mar and the Mediterranean Sea, and the Francesc-Masya Park will not require any effort from you to get to it... A little to the side Closer to the highway there is an exhibition of dinosaurs (8 euros), and if you want to enjoy the rides to your heart's content, then you should go to the Marineland water park near Malgrat, where for 15 euros you will not only ride on all imaginable and inconceivable water attractions, but also watch a dolphin show , parrots, cats.

The embankment will lead you to neighboring Santa Susanna, there is no border between the towns at all, where you really need to take a mini-train and for 15 euros go up the mountain, where you can admire the absolutely stunningly beautiful villas of the 18th-20th centuries...

The Mediterranean towns of Spain and, in particular, Malgrat de Mar are unique pearls on the coast. You just need to be able to look at them...

Is the answer helpful?

Malgrad de Mar, at first glance, is quite inconspicuous among the other resort towns of the Mediterranean coast, one of many. But this would be so if the city did not have its own special attractions, which I learned about by chance.

Being here on vacation for a couple of days, the hike didn’t work out. It was cloudy and cool. You can’t go to the sea, the hotel is boring, and there were no suitable excursion tours for these days of the week. So I decided to go hiking around the city. Previously, only the embankment was covered, on which there were many shopping arcades, cafes, and restaurants, but there was no point in going there again and I went in the opposite direction deep into the town towards residential areas. I read in the booklet that Malgrad de Mar has very expensive real estate and many celebrities of the country live here.

Walking through the very cozy streets of the city, I was able to see very remarkable nature. Beautiful trees with dark purple foliage were common.

At first they were all multi-storey buildings; by the way, they are often adjacent to hotels.

I lived at the Papi Hotel, so the windows and balconies of the residential building overlooked the hotel, and in the evenings you could see local residents who, like us tourists, watched an animated show organized by the hotel management.

The town has its own fur shop. But I didn’t dare make a purchase here. I also know from Greece that it is better to purchase such goods in specialized centers.

Moving deeper into Malgrad de Mar, I noticed a narrow path leading somewhere up to the mountainous part. Curiosity or the desire to see something new pushed me to climb. The charming little house was particularly impressive. Its facade was decorated with sea shells. Well, how could you not take a photo here?

Still not knowing where I was going, I managed to go out into the park. As I later learned from the hotel staff, this is a park named after F. Macia, the first president of the Catalan government. The park is small in area, there are magnificent coniferous trees.

There is a lighthouse on the observation deck. From here you have a magnificent view of the entire residential area of the city.

You can go down from the park by funicular, just like going up, but from the central square. It also houses one of the largest temples on the coast. This is the Church of St. Nicholas. It turns out that Malrad de Mar has already been inhabited since the 13th century. Therefore, such buildings are not uncommon here. Near the temple on the right side in a small one-story outbuilding there is an art gallery. There is also a small park where you can relax.

The bench against the background of the wall, made in the same mosaic technique that was used by the great Antonio Gaudi in Park Guell, attracted attention.

From the square there are many streets with low 2- and 3-story houses. The first floors are usually occupied by shops. One of these streets is inhabited by immigrants from China. This is your own Chinatown. They sell mainly clothes, which are cheaper than in stores on the main shopping street.

A random route around the town allowed us to see its sights, about which you can hardly find information anywhere. Therefore, if possible, do not be lazy to see the city in which you are spending your holidays. You can purchase a city map, although they are usually given to tourists in hotels upon check-in, or ask the reception staff about what iconic places there are.

We were going to mainland Spain for the first time; before that, we had been on holiday in Mallorca in Santa Ponsa for 2 years in a row. We are not picky tourists; we want a normal beach, somewhere to go out in the evening and rent a car for 3-4 days.
We booked a hotel in Malgrat de Mar, they promoted it to us as a small cozy town with narrow streets in the center and a wide beach.
As usual, a good idea comes after...we decided to look at the reviews after booking. True, the hotel has not yet been confirmed, there is time to change your mind.
There is not as much information as we would like, to summarize the reviews - a village with pensioners, all the pleasure from the beach is blocked by the railway, the beach is pebbly. Super(((
We don't need a party because... We are with a 2.5 year old child, but in the evening I want to sit in a cozy bar, wander around the shops during the day, rent a car not in the neighboring village 15 km away, but next to the hotel.
Tell me, who has been there, is everything so bad?
At the same time, maybe someone visited the Aqua Bella Playa 3* hotel...

I was on holiday in Malgrat de Mar last year. What can I tell you? A huge plus is the proximity to Barcelona. But Kalea would probably be even more convenient. I can’t say that the railway is very annoying, but I definitely won’t go to such a place again. The tourist area swarms at night with drunks, either English or Dutch, plus German youth. (They come there on their way to the camps). It’s dirty... We were from July 15 to August 1, and you won’t believe it, but it was cool, even cold. in the evenings... Constant winds and waves. The beach is pebbles, no, it's more like coarse sand. Plus, it doesn't stick to the towel.
The town of Malgrat itself, where the locals (mostly pensioners) live, is pleasant, but nothing more. There are a couple of good restaurants. In the tourist area, you can only find FAST Food and... EVERYTHING!!!
It's up to you to decide, but I would choose another place!!!
From what I saw, I would choose Tossa de Mar and Playa de Aro. It's worthy there.
Good luck!!!

Zamorskaya, thanks for the link!
The reviews seem to be normal... but a village with pngioners, where a lot of fast food has been added, is still annoying :)
Becky, what are these couple of restaurants? I want gazpacho and paella and don’t want hamburgers at all...

I was in Malgrat, at the Maripins Hotel. I don’t know anything about your hotel, I haven’t heard of it. The town of Malgrat de Mar... A cozy town with narrow streets in the center - yes, really. But only in a very small historical part, even tiny, where there are actually several narrow streets with old houses and a square with a cathedral and a fountain. There are no hotels in this part. In addition to the Sol d'Or hotel, which is located right next to the railway station, where the entire center of the town is located. The station and the entire railway line are directly on the seashore. The railway does not interfere at all. Trains run every 15 minutes, by shuttles, because the line is of one gauge, the trains pass one by one, in one direction and the other. The trains are quiet. The railway goes right along the shore, one might say, right along the sand of the beach. Sea, beach, sand, then the iron road, then the highway. There is more noise from the highway - from motorcyclists. Noisier than trains. To go to the beach - you will have to cross the road, not wide, 2 lanes, and then the railway - either on horseback or through an underground passage. And you are on the beach . The beach has pleasant sand, with very small pebbles. There are no large pebbles. The sea is pleasant, the sunsets are normal. Pine trees grow on the beach. The town itself, except for the tiny historical center, is a modern block-concrete building, medium-rise, stretched along the sea. Hotels - apartments-hotels, residential buildings. Towards Barcelona, Malgrat smoothly passes into Santa Susanna, in the other direction (towards Blanes) - into deserted places, the beach line towards Blanes ends, and the railway above Malgrat already goes away from the coast, deep into the mainland.
In general, nothing special. The landscapes are not the most picturesque - a flat sandy shore, pine trees, a promenade with benches, residential and hotel buildings along the shore. There were one or two discos there, crowds of local and non-local teenagers, 15-16 years old, came there on weekends. There are many shops, but this is an ordinary tourist bazaar-station with Chinese things. Everything closes at 10 p.m. This town is often chosen for inexpensive accommodation near Barcelona. To go there every day and come back in the evening. Budget. To Barça it’s 1.15 by train, it cost 1.25 euros 5 years ago, trains last until 11 pm, the last one leaves from Barcelona at about 10 pm.
So, after Mallorca, I would choose something more picturesque and interesting. Costa del Maresme is by no means the most interesting place near Barcelona. Then it’s higher - on the Costa Brava, in Tossa del Mar. Or lower - to the Costa Dorada, there are water parks, or even to the Costa Blanca.

Quiet coves with nature are to the north, beyond Blanes. Tossa de Mar, for example. Look at Google photos. From Malgrat to the south and to Barcelona - the same concrete buildings, small towns, they have small historical parts, with a square and a cathedral, as usual. If you're interested... I highly recommend going to Barcelona itself. For me, this is a must. But you have a small child... So, see for yourself. It will be interesting for adults, but it will be difficult for kids, of course. If you go to Barcelona, I don’t know which is better - by car or by train. It’s better to travel around Barcelona without a car - on foot or as a tourist, that’s for sure. If you leave it in the parking lot and then continue walking around the city.
Restaurants - I don’t remember. But there is a simple principle - where there are many locals, it’s good. And the locals will be in Malgrat not in the hotel modern part of the city, but near the station, in the old town, on those very narrow streets. If there are no problems with the language, ask the hotel receptionist, or the locals, sellers, for example, where the normal local food is.

I highly recommend going to the provincial-style restaurant with delicious food cooked on the grill "El Cortijo". For two we ate with beer and juices for 30 euros.
Wine will be more expensive, but this restaurant is worth it.
You can view the interiors here: http://picasaweb.google.ru/slmanuscriptum/wruqhK#
It’s not entirely true that there is only fast food there. In the coastal zone - yes. Those who are not too lazy to go a little deeper into the town will find a wonderful pizzeria, a Mexican restaurant, and Asian cuisine. There is a small park in the city center. And in Blanes and Lloret there are wonderful botanical gardens and parks. So no need to whine that there is nothing to do there!
