Koh Chang airport name. How to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang (transport and prices). From Ekamai bus station

Koh Chang is a fairly large island in eastern Thailand. There is also a national park of the same name. There are several ways how to get to Koh Chang in 2016.

How to get to Koh Chang by plane

The closest airport to Koh Chang is in Trat, on the mainland. It is very convenient to get to Trat by plane from Bangkok - flights operate three times a day from the main Thai airport Suvarnabhumi (BKK), the flight lasts one hour. To find cheap air tickets, we recommend using the aviasales service.

There are numerous minivan transfers between Trat Airport and Koh Chang; the ticket price, including the ferry, is 500 baht.

In addition, you can get there on your own: a songthaew to the pier costs 60-100 baht; how to get there further, read the Ferries section.

How to get to Koh Chang by bus

Another way to get to the island in 2016 is to take a bus to Koh Chang. The most convenient option is to take bus No. 999, which runs from the Eastern (Ekamai) Bus Terminal in Bangkok directly to the town of Laem Ngop, from where ferries depart for Koh Chang. Ticket price: about 280 baht. The bus ride takes approximately five hours, with stops in other Thai cities along the way. Buses depart every 30 minutes throughout the day. This option is also convenient because the bus terminal is located near the metro station.

If you arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and want to go straight from there to Koh Chang Island, it will be more convenient to use bus No. 392, which runs between the Suvarnabhumi Airport bus terminal (the terminal is located one and a half kilometers from the airport, there are free shuttle buses to it). Departure from the terminal is 07:50, tickets cost 600 baht. The bus stops in several cities, including Pattaya, Trat and others. Tickets can be booked at bussuvarnabhumikohchang.com.

The same company operates non-stop minivan services from Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal directly to Lonely Beach, located on Koh Chang. Unlike the bus, the minivan departs three times a day: at 09:30, at 11:01 and at 14:00. Ticket price: about 600 baht. You cannot book your ticket online.

There are also several bus services from Bangkok (from the Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit)) to Trat. From there you can get to the songthaew ferry for 50 baht.

How to get to Koh Chang island by ferry in 2016

Ferries to Koh Chang depart from three different piers:

  • Laem Ngop (also known as Tha Khrom Luang) is located 700 meters west of Laem Ngop town. Ferries from this pier arrive at the pier called Tha Dan Kao. The trip to Koh Chang takes 45-60 minutes.
  • The Centrepoint, located another 3.5 kilometers to the north-west, serves both car ferries and those for people only.
  • The Thammachat Bay car pier is located 14-15 kilometers west of the city of Laem Ngop. Ferries arrive at Ko Chang Ferry Pier on Ko Chang (three kilometers north of Tha Dan Kao Pier).

See the map above for the location of all piers (zoom in if necessary).

To get from the ferry pier to the desired hotel or beach, use the taxi / minibus services that are always waiting for visitors near the pier. The cost of a trip by minivan depends on the distance and ranges from 55 to 210 baht.

How to get to Koh Chang by taxi

Some companies offer services to transport travelers from Bangkok airport to their hotel or any other place in Koh Chang by car. Travel time is approximately 5.5 hours. Prices start at 4,800 baht and depend on the brand and class of the chosen car (4,800 baht for a Toyota Camry, but you can also drive a Mercedes for an additional fee). You can view prices and book a transfer on the website

In this article, I collected all the available information on how to get from Bangkok to the island, plus I described my own experience.

An important point to consider first is that the last ferry to Koh Chang leaves at 19:00. The first ferry leaves at 6 am.

There are several ways to get to Koh Chang:

1) From the Ekkamai East Bus Terminal (Ekkamai Bus Terminal, on Sukhumwit Road), which is located at the metro station of the same name, a 5-minute walk.

There are two types of buses departing from here:

— Which go directly to the Laem Ngop pier, from where ferries sail to Koh Chang. These buses only run in the morning, at 7:45, 8:45 and 9:45. Travel time: 6 hours, not including ferry. Price 275 baht per person.

— Which go to the city of Trat (at Trat Bus Terminal) in the province of the same name, which includes Koh Chang. There you need to take a songthaew and for 50 baht it takes 30 minutes to get to the pier. There are two disadvantages here: firstly, going to songthaew is hellishly stuffy, and secondly, if there are not enough people, you will have to wait a long time for them to be filled, or pay 300 baht. These buses run every hour between 4am and 11pm. Travel time: 6 hours, not including ferry. The same price.

2) From Morchit Bus Terminal on Kamphaeng Phet Road, located at Morchit MRT Station. It is near Don Mueang airport. There are public buses from the airport to Morchit metro station, they cost 30 baht per person and take about 20 minutes. Buses from here do not go directly to Laem Ngop, and buses to Trat depart much less frequently than from Ekkamai Bass Terminal - at 08:30, 09 :30, 12:30, 15:30, 17:30, 23:00. Travel time is also 6 hours, price 270 baht. There are also minivans running from the Morchit bass terminal to Trat starting at 05:00. They travel faster, 4 hours, fare 250 baht.

3) From Suvarnabhumi Airport. Bus No. 999 stops at the bass terminal next to it, going from Ekkamai Bass Terminal directly to Laem Ngop Pier. There are free shuttle buses that go to this place.

There is no transport from Don Mueang Airport to Koh Chang - neither to Laem Ngop, nor to Trat, they only offer taxi services at unrealistic prices. You can also take bus No. 392 from Suvarnabhumi to Laem Ngop Pier (at 7:30 am), but they only run during high season, i.e. from October to May. Also on the ground floor of Suvarnabhumi Airport, next to exit 8, they sell tickets for minivans directly to Koh Chang, they cost 600 baht one way or 800 baht round trip, on Koh Chang they will take you to the place/beach of your choice. These minivans depart at 7:40, 11:00 and 14:00.

4) From the street/area Khao San Road. This is convenient only for those who are staying in this particular area, otherwise there is no point in going from here. A minibus ticket to Koh Chang and straight to the ferry can be bought at small travel agencies, of which there are a lot on Khao San Road. It is better to buy tickets to Koh Chang here in advance, the day before the trip.

5) From Victory Monument metro station. But it’s worth going from here to Koh Chang, as in the previous case, if you are staying somewhere nearby.

6) By plane from Bangkok to Trat. For example, Bangkok Air, which flies in this direction 3 times a day - at 8:40, 10:30 and 17:05. Flight time is only one hour. You can get from the airport to Laem Ngop Pier by taxi or minivan. The price is from 100 baht and above, it depends on whether you are going only to the pier or directly to the hotel on Koh Chang.

We used the first method. It took us 20 minutes to get from our hotel to the Ekkamai terminal by taxi (93 baht), and we got there at about half past 9. Bus No. 999 to Koh Chang departed at 8:45 and 9:45, so we took the nearest one without any expectations. There weren’t many empty seats left, literally about 5. The ticket cost 275 baht per person. When purchasing a ticket, you choose your seat on the bus.

As it turned out, it is better to choose a place away from the toilet, i.e. from the back of the bus, because It smelled like hell when someone opened the door. Immediately upon departure, everyone was given a box of cupcakes and a glass of water. The bus is very comfortable, good, except that the smelly toilet sometimes spoils the air.

This is what this bus #999 looks like.

At 9:15 our bus stopped at the bus terminal of Suvarnabhumi Airport, where several more people boarded.

After two hours, the bus made a 15-minute stop for the toilet and food/drink. Then we drove on, and halfway through the journey the bus broke down. We waited for 20-30 minutes in some cafe, after which another bus arrived, which turned out to be much worse than the previous one, mainly because it was hellishly stuffy inside.

It was only at 15:40 that we arrived at the Laem Ngop pier. More precisely, not to the pier itself, but to the counter for purchasing ferry tickets. A one-way ticket costs 80 baht, a round-trip ticket with an open date costs 140 baht. We took a round trip ticket. The main thing is not to lose it in a whole month!

Bus schedule returning from Laem Ngop to Bangkok. To catch the 2-hour bus, you need to take the ferry to Koh Chang at 12 o'clock, which means take a tuk-tuk from your hotel (from Lonely Beach or White Sand Beach) at 11.

The Thais said to wait a little, about 10 minutes, and free taxis would come and take us to the pier. But it turned out to be only 200 meters to go there and we all went on foot. The line for cars on the ferry was long... it was so scary. I immediately remembered a trip to Olkhon Island in Irkutsk.

And the ferry to Koh Chang is about the same as Davao-Samal.

By the way, Laem Ngop Pier means two piers - Koh Chang Ferry Pier and Center Point Ferry Pier. Buses bring you to one pier and then to another. We sailed from Center Point Ferry Pier. Travel time: 45 minutes. It makes no difference which pier the bus takes you to, so you shouldn’t even find out in advance.

Here is Koh Chang itself. Just a jungle! The island is developed only off the coast, and even then only from the western part.

Next, when you sail to Koh Chang, you can get to your chosen hotel or beach by tuk-tuks (also called songthaews or pickups) with the sign taxi. If you have not yet chosen a hotel or beach, then stay at White Sand Beach, because... there is a lot of inexpensive housing there, and everything you need is nearby, then you can find some other housing if you want. You can also stop temporarily at Lonely Beach, but from there you go further to buy fruit and it’s not as beautiful and cozy as White Sand Beach.

Tuk-tuk prices to Koh Chang beaches:

— Baan Khlong Son - 30 baht per person.

— White Sand Beach - 50 baht per person.

— Khlong Prao Beach - 60 baht per person.

— Kai Bae Beach - 80 baht per person.

— Lonely Beach - 100 baht per person.

— Bai Lan Beach - 120 baht per person.

— Baan Bang Bao - 150 baht per person.

We arrived at Lonely Beach. Of all our tuk-tuk, which was packed with 15-16 people, only a few people went to White Sand Beach, the rest went to Lonely Beach. But the name of this beach should apparently be written in quotation marks, because it’s quite noisy here...

On Koh Chang it is not a problem to find inexpensive housing, for 400-500 baht per day. With normal internet and a decent toilet. But it’s not a fact that it will be a quiet place...

Most travelers prefer not to contact any travel companies and do everything on their own. There is a reason for this, because the principle that “language will bring you to Kyiv” has not yet been canceled. In addition, the trip in this case becomes akin to an adventure, and this is the true, original meaning of travel. Many people are interested how to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang, there are so many answers to this question that it’s easy to get confused. Moreover, some of them contradict each other or the only difference is which palm tree to choose as a guide. Today we will try to systematize all the information and bring it to a common denominator.

The metro station is located in the city center. Suvarnabhumi Airport is a 40-minute drive away. From the city it's even faster. From here to Koh Chang there are minibuses, or minivans. And what’s good is that it’s right to the Koh Chang pier. Dispatched frequently. Tickets are sold near city bus stops and the market. Ticket price 300 baht. Travel time is 5 hours.

Cons: The minivan doesn't have much luggage space. Sometimes you have to put your suitcase in the aisle. We were traveling in such a minivan from Koh Chang to Pattaya, we could barely fit our luggage, and there were quite a lot of people there. We got seats in front next to the driver. The seat was uncomfortable, I sat for 4 hours either on the springs or on the edge. The body is noticeably tired. Now in Thailand I prefer to travel by bus.

From Khao San Road area

Very lucky are those who stay in Bangkok on Khao San Road. It will be easiest for them to buy a ticket and get to Koh Chang. A transfer to Koh Chang (you can buy a round-trip ticket right away, it will be a little cheaper) can be purchased at the so-called local travel agencies, which are located on the street at every turn. Choose the most beautiful one and go there. Transfer cost 400-900 baht per person.

It’s even easier to buy a transfer at the hotel itself (where you live) at the reception. If suddenly your hotel does not have such a service, go to a neighboring hotel.

Only minivans operate from Khao San Road. Buses simply don't go there. I voiced the minus of the minivan above. If this doesn't bother you and you live on Khao San Road, then look no further for other options. Buy here and better the day before your trip. There are many tourists who want to go to Koh Chang. Transfer from Khao San Road is popular.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport

There are three options for getting there from the airport.

1. By bus No. 392 by Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus service. Takes you to Koh Chang via the mainland Centerpoint Pier. On the island, you are transferred from the bus to a songthaew, which takes tourists to the desired beach.

Departures from the airport once a day: 7.50. Return from Koh Chang at 13.00. From Trat to Suvarnabhumi Airport at 14.00. That is, the return route of the bus is as follows: Koh Chang Island - Trat Airport.

One way ticket price is 600 baht. Round trip 900 baht. The price includes a ferry ticket, a bottle of water, and snacks. The site of the company.

2. Lonely Beach express minibus from the same company. It will take you straight to the beach. Tickets are sold on the ground floor of the airport next to Gate 8. How to order tickets online is described on the company's website.

One way ticket price is 600 baht. Round trip 900 baht. The ferry is included in the price. The minibus makes a couple of stops along the way.

3. From the bus station at Bus Terminal Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Buses to Trat from the northern bus station of Mo Chit pass through it. Government Bus 999 runs from Ekkamai South Bus Station through the airport bus station.

I gave the schedule above. Just add half an hour to an hour for the bus journey from the bus station to the airport.

Transfer to Koh Chang

For those who love comfort and don’t want to make unnecessary movements, I recommend ordering transfer online, that is, book a car with a driver in advance via the Internet.

You will be met in the arrivals hall, your luggage will be carried to your car and you will be taken exactly to the main entrance of the hotel. You can order a transfer to Koh Chang online using the form below. At the time of booking you need to pay about 15% of the transfer cost, the rest of the amount is paid in cash to the driver. A group transfer will be more affordable.

Taxi to Koh Chang

You can take a taxi at the airport, arrange it on the street, or at your hotel in Bangkok. The cost of a taxi to the ferry is approximately 2500-3500 baht, to the hotel on Koh Chang 4000-6000 baht (the taxi is loaded onto the ferry with you). You can try to bargain.

I wrote prices for a standard car that can fit 4 people. For a large company you will have to order a minivan. Booking will cost a little more, but if you spread it across the whole group, it will be cheaper per person.

Car rent

If you know how and like to drive a car, you can take it to. It’s certainly nice to manage your own time and route, but remember that traffic in Thailand is on the left. The roads are good, but if you deviate from the main routes, you may end up with “surprises”. What driver's license is needed to drive in Thailand read here.

By plane from Bangkok to Trat

Koh Chang does not have its own airport. The nearest one is in Trat. Therefore, from Bangkok, and indeed from other parts of the country, you will need to buy an air ticket to Trat airport. Only one airline flies there, Bangkok Airways. One way price 3200 baht, travel time 1 hour. They fly 3 times a day.

Hurry up to buy a plane ticket to Koh Chang

At the airport, take a taxi, minibus or minibus and go to the pier. The cost of a minibus to the pier is 100 baht, the cost of a minibus to the beach is about 400 baht (to White Sand Beach), a taxi to the hotel is 2000 baht.

How to get from Trat to Koh Chang

If a bus from Bangkok brings you to the Trat Bus Terminal, then after disembarking you take a taxi (songthaew), which can easily be found here. Tell the driver ferry to Kho Chang and he will take you to the pier in a few minutes without any problems. The asking price is 50-100 baht. If the driver asks you which pier to take you to, then... read the next section.

Ferries to Koh Chang

There are 2 piers on the mainland side from which ferries run to Koh Chang. They have different schedules and different travel times.

1. Ko Chang Ferry Pier, also known as Ao Thammachart. It is closer to Bangkok. And more often this is where buses, minivans and other tourist transport run.

They run every 30 minutes from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm. They float for 25-30 minutes. The cost is 80 baht one way, 120 baht round trip with an open date in the opposite direction. The price for a car there and back is 200 baht.

2. Center Point Ferry Pier. They go every hour. Swim for 1 hour. Distance to Trat 20 km. Ferries run from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays until 9:00 p.m. The cost is 80 baht one way, 120 baht round trip with an open date in the opposite direction. We did not depart from this pier. They say that they do not charge money for transporting the car.

How to get from the ferry to the beach

When the ferry takes you to the island, you will have several options to get to the beach. Since almost all the hotels are located along the only road on the island, getting to the hotel will not be difficult.

1.If your price included a taxi from the ferry to the hotel, then look for a minivan with the name of the company you paid for the transfer with. Show the receipt, get into the car and say the name of the beach or hotel.

2. If the transfer from the ferry to the beach was not included in the price, then choose one of the available pickups. All prices are the same. There is no point in bargaining.

If you have not yet chosen a beach, we recommend that you first stop at the first beach, White Sand beach, and rent accommodation for a couple of days. Take a closer look, go to the neighboring beaches. And then decide whether you will stay here or choose another beach. We recommend the beach

As you can see, there are plenty of options for getting to Koh Chang from Bangkok. All you have to do is decide which one to choose, based on your route and departure time to the island. 5-7 hours of travel is still not easy to endure, even if you are traveling on a comfortable bus. Tourists often take night flights. The calculation is simple: save on a hotel and at the same time get some sleep on the way. It's like killing two birds with one stone.

In fact, on the bus you will not be able to stretch your legs and take a horizontal position, and you may also find restless neighbors or parents with an awake child. And your night trip will turn into a nightmare. The next day is lost - you will walk around sluggish or irritable, or just sleep it off.

I'm not discouraging you from traveling overnight. Sometimes this option is very convenient (especially in Europe). Just take note of any road surprises and be prepared for them. So, have a good trip!
