(archive) / Czech Republic

Good evening! We are planning to visit three capitals this summer, with my husband and child. We are not considering the option of traveling by bus from Brest. We get to Moscow ourselves, and then we don’t know what’s best) Please tell me what would be cheaper and more convenient - by plane or train? Which is more convenient to travel - bus or train? Is it possible to tour with a holiday at sea? For example, a 10-day tour and then a week at sea, but where? We first want to decide on transport, then go to the travel agency.

Galka73 According to your wishes, the sea in Croatia fits well. IMHO, but Balaton (with all my love for it) instead of the sea is an unequal substitute. Possible Prague-Vienna- Budapest- (Balaton, to compare) - Croatia (just choose where in Croatia). You can shorten: Budapest- balaton - Zagreb(well, so that there was also a capital) - the sea. And in general, go by car! Another option is to fly to Budapest and rent - Hungary - Croatia - excellent roads

The regular bus usually departs on the following days of the week:

  • Sunday
  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday
  • Friday

I once spent a week in Hungary, unfortunately, in splendid isolation. My friend, who vowed to share the joys and hardships of this trip with me, changed her mind at the last moment. And so I also wanted to take a look at Croatia with one eye, because by our standards, 345 km is nonsense, not a distance. Since I booked the hotel for the entire period in , I had to go back at night. So it turned out that there were only 7 hours left for walking around Zagreb, if you subtract the travel time. But this was enough to understand that this is my city. I liked everything, as if I had been there more than once!

On them you will see all the cars with prices, conditions and descriptions at once, which will significantly save time.

From Budapest to Zagreb by train

There are only two direct trains per day: at 05:50 and at 14:45. The first one departs from the railway station in Budapest.

The second train leaves from Keleti station.

Both trains arrive at Zagreb Main Station after 6 hours of travel.

It seems to me that the train is a good way to get to Zagreb, especially since the route is served by Intercity trains, the quality of which, I think, everyone has heard about.

How to pay for travel

You can buy tickets at the station ticket office, which serves international destinations. On the website of the Croatian railways I did not find a function for online purchase of tickets to other countries, but in Hungarian it is available. But before you buy tickets this way, think about whether it’s worth it. The fact is that a ticket printed on a regular printer is not considered a ticket at all. You will still have to pick up your real travel document from a special terminal at the station by entering a code that will be sent to you by email.

Ticket prices

For some reason, you can’t immediately see ticket prices for international flights. You need to enter your date of birth, and only then will they show you that with the promotion you can ride to Zagreb for 19 euros, and if not with the promotion, then for 29 euros.

From Budapest to Zagreb by bus

Every day there are two direct flights of the Flixbus company going to Zagreb: at 7:00 (or at 08:00, different in different months) and at 15:30 (or at 16:00). You need to leave from the Budapest bus station, which is located at Üllői út 131. The salons have the most necessary things: a toilet that works all the way, free wireless Internet, a sufficient number of sockets and air conditioning. In such conditions, the 5-hour journey goes by very quickly and is not at all tiring. Buses arrive at the Zagreb bus station at Avenija Marina Držića 4, located near the train station. If the timing of direct flights is not convenient for you, there is also an evening flight at 22:15, with a transfer. True, you will have to spend 11.5 hours on the road.

How to pay for travel

You can buy tickets at special Flixbus sales offices or through the carrier’s official website. On some flights it is also possible to pay the driver's fare, but not on all flights, so it is better not to delay purchasing tickets.

Ticket prices

You can find much better prices in advance than just before departure. Therefore, I prefer to buy tickets online while still at home, it’s more profitable. The trip costs from 17 to 59 euros.

Results

I really wanted to get there quickly, but I couldn’t find adequate flights. There are no direct flights, only with transfers. It turns out that the journey will take about 3 hours and approximately 300 euros. It seemed much better, as it seemed to me, to use the bus, which took me to Zagreb for only 20 euros and 5 hours of comfort. There is absolutely nothing to complain about about the service, I liked everything.
