What does Pattaya look like? The main attractions of Pattaya: photos and descriptions. What to see in Pattaya video

Thailand invariably remains one of the most popular destinations not only in South Asia, but also in world tourism. Everyone comes here with their own goals, desires and expectations, but everyone who has visited Siam at least once has one thing in common - they have all been to Pattaya at least once.

The seaside town is the most popular place among visiting tourists. This is a kind of visiting card of Thailand. A city that attracts with the number of night lights, intoxicating with the atmosphere of freedom and fun, and never falls asleep. Isn't this a holiday for partygoers?

Of course, not everyone comes here for fun. Many come with families, sometimes even with children. And they find a completely different vacation - quiet, calm and educational. Because Pattaya is a place where complete opposites coexist peacefully, and where everyone will find something to their liking.

It is not surprising that, like in other districts of Thailand, there are a lot of Russians in Pattaya. Most come on vacation, but a fair number live here permanently.

Recently, things have become increasingly easier for our compatriots here: entire neighborhoods are being built for Russian speakers, schools and kindergartens are opening with our teachers and educators, and even separate groups in fitness centers and English language courses.

All these people who finally moved here also once simply came to Pattaya on vacation. And then they returned and decided to stay. Because it’s impossible not to fall in love with this city.

First of all, you should decide for yourself: why are you going to Thailand? What do you expect from the trip? And then everything will fall into place. You will find the most suitable place to stay, choose excursions and outline a plan for other interesting places. And, most importantly, then you will see the city the way you wanted.

For example, people who claim that it is impossible to go here with children, since Pattaya is the capital of debauchery. But it's not about the city itself. It's about the people themselves.

You can easily come with your child, stay in some boarding-type hotel (for example, Villa Thongbura) and instead of walking along Walking street and other hot spots, go to the islands and excursions. And then you won’t even think about the “bad” influence of the city on your child.

Likewise, if you are going to have fun and relax with a noisy company, then by choosing the right places, you will get exactly what you came for.

This is what captivates many tourists: the versatility of Pattaya, and its ability to offer options for completely different holidays.

What should you know about Pattaya before flying here? First of all, you need to come to terms with the lack of snow-white beaches with azure surf. If this is what you need, then this is definitely not the place for you. In terms of beaches, the city cannot be compared with the islands of Thailand, even Phuket.

The completely ordinary coastline here evokes neither delight nor the desire to take a plunge. Even expensive hotels located on the first coastline along the cleanest part of the sandy beach cannot boast of clean and clear water.

Therefore, if you decide to come to Pattaya, but at the same time want to lie on clean sand, then you will have to go to the nearest islands.

The most accessible and closest is the island of Koh Larn.

How to get to Koh Larn and how much it costs - watch the video

You can get there by public ferry or by rented boat.

Just 10 years ago, this island was something out of a Hollywood movie. There were no crowds of tourists here, the water was striking in the color of heavenly azure, and the sand was blindingly white.

But time passes and today this place is the most popular beach holiday destination not only for vacationers, but also for locals. On a hot sunny day on the island of Koh Larn there is nowhere for an apple to fall.

Moreover, during low tide, enterprising Thais continue to set up rows of sun loungers, so, for example, if you arrived and took seats right by the sea before high tide, then after 2-3 hours there will be several more fully occupied rows between you and the surf.

Of course, the island will still greet you today with blue water and white sand, but such crowds of tourists and endless rows of local cafes along the beach are a little annoying.

But this is what Pattaya is today - it is a huge anthill that is constantly moving and growing. However, like any other large resort town.

Sights of Pattaya with photos and descriptions

If beaches and aimless vacations don’t appeal to you, then you should pay attention to some of the city’s iconic sights.

Like any other city in Thailand, Pattaya is a city of palaces and temples. Naturally, there are much fewer of them here than in Bangkok, but there is still something to see. One of the most famous places, a kind of calling card of the resort, is the Big Buddha Temple.

The temple is located on the top of a hill and is a whole Buddhist complex. It got its name from its main attraction - the Buddha statue located at the top. It’s not for nothing that the monument is called large – it is truly huge.

A gilded giant Buddha sitting on top of a hill in the traditional lotus position with a smile of peace and tranquility on his face.

But there is not only one statue here. As mentioned above, this is a whole temple complex, which means every detail deserves special attention.

For example, a staircase leading from the foot to the Buddha. This is a real work of art. It consists of 120 steps, and snakes and dragons accompany you, located on the sides, along the railings.

There is also a local belief associated with this staircase: when going up and down it, you must carefully count the number of steps. It is believed that a person with pure karma will be able to do this without losing count and without missing a single one. And if it doesn’t work out, then, according to Buddhists, this is a sure sign that you need to change something in your life.

Those who have finally converted to the Buddhist religion and did not come for the sake of curiosity must undergo a special ritual of soul purification. To the left of the beginning of the stairs there is a room where the monks conduct services. Here, for a small donation, the necessary prayer will be read over you, a talisman will be tied, and you can begin your climb to the top.

Climbing up to the Big Buddha, you can see more than just one large statue. Around there are 20 figures depicting the stages of the Buddha's formation. In addition, among them there are images of the days of the week.

Another tradition is associated with them: you need to purchase a special incense and “offer” it to the figure on whose day you were born. It is believed to attract good luck and fulfill wishes.

For those who, having gone back down, according to local tradition, do not have enough steps, there are a couple of options for a kind of cleansing of karma.

For example, locals believe that the ringing of bells at the foot of the Big Buddha cleanses a person of his sins. Therefore, the ritual of ringing these very bells with a special sledgehammer is especially popular among tourists here.

If this is not enough, enterprising locals offer to release the birds from their cages for a nominal fee. According to Buddhist beliefs, releasing birds from captivity also promotes spiritual purification.

Another iconic place in Pattaya is Mini Siam Park. Unlike the Big Buddha, this is a completely “secular” place, and it will be especially interesting to come here with children.

Mini Siam is truly a small Thailand. All the main architectural landmarks of the country are collected here on a scale of 1 to 25.

But the creators of the complex decided not to stop there and opened the second part of the park - Mini-Europe. All religious buildings of the countries of the Old and New Worlds are collected here.

Just imagine: in just an hour and a half leisurely walk you will see all the famous buildings and wonders of the world. Here you will find the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the British Big Ben, and even St. Basil's Cathedral. Agree, it sounds tempting.

It is best to plan a visit to the park in the evening: it is not as hot and stuffy as during the day, there is no scorching sun, which is important, because Mini-Siam is located in the open air, but the main thing is that in the evening all the exhibits take on a completely magical look thanks to the lighting.

As for entertainment, the advantages of Pattaya can be described endlessly. The whole city is one continuous party, as soon as night falls.

Walking street - the most famous street in Pattaya

Head to the center and the famous Walking Street - here you will find bars, clubs, famous drag queen shows and much more. If you are not a fan of such spectacles, then it is still worth a trip to the center, at least for the sake of shopping.

Walking street - the most famous street in Pattaya

Here you can find many shops, both small local and large shopping centers. For famous brands, it is best to go to “Festival”; every taxi driver knows it here. This is a large mall with several floors, where you can buy clothes, shoes and accessories of different price categories.

The only thing worth remembering: as throughout Asia, prices in designer boutiques are especially different here. All things there will cost more not only than, for example, in Europe, but also than in nearby Bangkok.

And if you decide to shop in such places, then save all the tags and prices, since at customs the Thais seize counterfeit goods and fakes, and just in case, it’s better to be on the safe side.

In addition, Thailand in general, and Pattaya in particular, is a producer of quality jewelry. You can visit jewelry boutiques or factory stores, where for reasonable money you can find really worthwhile jewelry that will delight you for many years. It is especially worth paying attention to jewelry with precious stones.

You can talk about Pattaya, like Bangkok, and the rest of Thailand for hours, but still not say anything. It is impossible to describe all the emotions you experience when you first get here.

This is a holiday city, where interesting people live, where there are many wonderful places, where debauchery and true cordiality and hospitality unexpectedly peacefully coexist. You will definitely want to come back here, because it is impossible to learn everything at once, walk around the entire city and travel around all the nearby islands.

Here you can relax with your family, or you can plunge into the frantic fun of a noisy group. This is one of those places that you definitely need to visit, if only for show.

Even despite the fact that recently crowds of tourists have been coming here and the majority no longer consider this seaside city suitable for a good holiday. This is far from true. The city is growing and constantly changing, but nevertheless, it does not lose its original flavor.

From year to year it remains the same as it has always been - beautiful and amazing, incomprehensible and vulgar, and simply unusual and peculiar. In the end, this is what distinguishes him from others - his amazing ability to organically combine the beautiful and the ugly, the attractive and the repulsive.

This is why they love Pattaya and come here to bask in the hot rays of the Thai sun and relax, thanks to the polite and attentive service.

In the summer we lived in Pattaya and thought it would be interesting to come one day to see what was going on here in the winter, during the high season. No one could have imagined that our return would happen so soon. Last November, fate brought us back to Pattaya at the height of the tourist season. Thoughts are material. And so, we are riding in a tuk-tuk, turning our heads, wondering what changes have happened in the city.

Features of Pattaya in winter

Clean transparent sea

The first thing that caught my eye was the clean water in the sea. Some kind of miracles! There is no debris in the water, it is not gray-brown in color and is even transparent! The big waves and low tides that often happen here in the off-season (see article) have been replaced by peace and quiet. And the garbage, apparently, changes its route during the season and bypasses the resort areas.

Incredibly, this is the sea in Pattaya!

Situation on Pattaya beaches in November, December and January

There are more tourists on the beaches of Pattaya. However, not as much as we expected. The apple has a place to fall. For some reason, before we were sure that Pattaya would not be crowded in winter; we expected that at the height of the tourist season in Jomtien, all the sun loungers would be occupied, and heaps of (Russian) tourists would be idly wandering around the streets and beaches. But, no, there are, of course, more people than in June-August, but not so much as crowds. Everything is somehow evenly distributed and there is no feeling of crowding. Maybe the crisis, the fall of the ruble and the regular bankruptcies of travel agencies are having an effect?

Is it possible to swim in Pattaya in winter? We tried

Slava took the risk of swimming in Pattaya. For the first time! In the 4 months that we lived here in the summer, he never did this. And now the water is so clean and transparent that the temptation is very great! I swam for a couple of minutes without much pleasure and left.

Is it possible to swim in Jomtien? Yes! I did it!

Pattaya is perceived differently in winter than in summer

The second thing we noticed is that during the high season Pattaya is perceived somehow differently. It seems like everything here is so familiar to you, you’re riding in a minibus and you know where it’s going to turn, but at the same time everything is different.

Jomtien is so familiar, Thais on the beach drink Blend whiskey, the sound of doors at 7-Eleven, the smells of garbage and street food replace each other.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article.

Our little soul was so filled with emotions that if I were a child, I would have cried with happiness. I was ready to shout “hello” even to long-legged secret girls and trannies in bars, forgiving them for stealing.

We were glad even to European pensioners (old farangs)

Drunk tourists buying beer by the crate are welcome

We were glad to see the gay beach of Pratumnak

And we were glad to see the Thais constantly drinking their favorite Blend on the embankment

For a moment I even felt ashamed that they had once written about Pattaya a couple of times. By God, everything is learned by comparison! After Vietnam, returning to Pattaya was a real joy!

First hours in Pattaya. It's all written on my face

Reviews, advantages and disadvantages of Pattaya in winter

The advantage of the season is a clear and calm sea in which you can swim, but the disadvantage is that the weather is too hot. In the summer months in Pattaya there is a breeze, coolness, rain once a week and no heat. But the sea is choppy and dirty; you can only swim on the island. In winter, in December and January, when Pattaya is at its peak season, it is, of course, much more fun and colorful. You feel like you are in a resort town, but in the low season there is no such feeling. We are very glad that we returned to Pattaya, even if only for a short time.

Where to stay in Pattaya

Winter in Pattaya affects hotel prices, as well as rapidly decreasing availability. In some hotels, all rooms are sold out 2 months in advance. Therefore, we recommend that you book your hotel in Pattaya in advance, especially if you plan to go in December-January. Ideally on the same day. Below you can see a selection of hotels with good reviews:

Here are the promised ones at last photo of the city of Pattaya.

At first I wanted to call the report “Pattaya - a city of contrasts,” but then I decided to write “for adults.” Because there are practically no conditions for holidays with children. Narrow streets with heavy traffic, dirty, with unpleasant odors, without playgrounds and clear sea. In addition, older children will have to explain all sorts of sensitive issues. Perhaps somewhere there are all-inclusive hotels with swimming pools, but in the city itself, parents and children look somehow strange, they obviously got there for the first time and by accident and are unlikely to return there again with the whole family. But for couples who are not burdened with every minute worries about their offspring, this city is generally suitable. Although we do not intend to return to it, and if the opportunity arises, next time it is better to see another Thailand.

So, Pattaya (with emphasis on the last syllable). First, you can look at what year they have according to the Buddhist calendar on the poster of some festival:

And this is a coastal street. Coconut palm leaves are trimmed. Coconuts are also everywhere.

It's like a city beach. But I already wrote about beaches where you can swim.

Russian school :)

Everywhere on the streets there are Buddha and elephants:

By the way, here is a view of a typical store: air conditioning, a miniature Buddhist temple and a moped.

The traffic on the streets there is quite active, and on the coastal street there are often no traffic lights for drivers, so they have to move around like this.

And like in all warm countries, Pattaya has a huge number of motorcyclists:

You can rent a moped:

There are also a lot of taxis, but I would not say that they are cheap (for example, from the city center to the Mini Siam park they took us for 300 baht, and from there to the hotel - only 5 kilometers - for 200)

Therefore, everyone prefers to travel around the city center by tuk-tuk. During the day they drive half empty, slowing down and honking at every pedestrian, but in the evening they are crowded:

By the way, don’t even think about asking the tuk-tuk driver how much the fare costs, they will answer you - 20, it’s better to just pay 10, like all normal Thais.

This is the car on the same one leading to the pier:

And these are Thai bahts, before the crisis they were almost equal to the ruble. Very convenient :)

The banknotes feature portraits of the great King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX.

However, not only on banknotes. Portraits of the king, who has ruled Thailand for seven decades, are everywhere. Thais highly reverence their monarch, and even a tourist can end up in jail for disrespecting him.

More portraits of the ruling couple:

Stairs leading to one of the most popular places among tourists - the Temple of the Golden Buddha on a high hill:

The same seven-headed snake that shielded Buddha from the scorching sun:

Here Siddhartha Gautama, who abdicated the throne, sets off to wander around the world:

This is him after a long meditation:

True, the statue of the future Buddha, Hotei, is much more popular among tourists, and everyone tries to hit him in the navel with a coin. To improve your well-being, of course.

In the same Temple, you can make a wish, and it will come true when the rope tied by the monk on your wrist breaks (by the way, it’s quite thick... apparently, you are given time to work to make it come true).

Note, by the way, that monks are forbidden to even touch women. Accordingly, women also need to be more careful so as not to spoil the monk’s karma:

And this is a symbolic footprint of Buddha with images of mysterious squiggles.

And a view of Pattaya from the observation deck:

And now other photos of the city of Pattaya - more down-to-earth, that is, about food :).

I’ll say right away that we haven’t tried durian, and in fact we don’t regret it.

But I really liked the local watermelons, small but sweet. You can buy them directly on the street. This cut piece in a bag and with a wooden stick costs 10 baht:

And the ripe mango is very tasty and sweet, but the unripe mango was called a “carrot.”

This cool fruit is called "dragon's eye" and tastes similar to kiwi.

But the papaya didn’t impress us; we couldn’t even finish one piece. It didn’t seem to be green...

These hairy little things are rambutans; they have white flesh under the skin and a seed in the middle.

And this is blue Thai tea Anchan. True, the flower did not open in the photo, but from one you get such a blue drink. You can brew it stronger, then it will be blue. As it says on the label, it should help relieve eye fatigue and prevent the formation of gray hair.

In general, the fruits that we saw in the city center did not seem cheap to us. There was even a thought about going to a purely Thai market, but after rummaging through the forums, we abandoned this idea (we were very scared there with the dirt, smells and all sorts of frogs).

This, by the way, is a whole car of durian:

In general, on the streets there are many mobile food stalls (makashnits) with fruits, drinks, salads

and hot pancakes with your choice of fillings:

But we tried little local cuisine, mostly in and on. Although the guides advised visiting purely Thai cafes, where there is less advertising and Russian-English slogans, they say, just learn the names of several Thai dishes and do not forget to add “no spice, no ice” - and you will be happy, inexpensive. But, to be honest, for me, culinary experiences are not the main thing when traveling.

And on the fourth day of our stay, we were generally drawn to the “domestic”:

Borscht, cabbage rolls, chicken soup... we ate too much

Here, they even captured the receipt:

And this is the Thai massage salon that we liked.

Of course, there are salons of all kinds at every turn, with varying degrees of shading, privacy and sterility.

But we are not fans of extreme sports, so we liked this one, in the European style, more. Plus there is free Wi-Fi :).
