How to live in Repino. Repino, Komarovo and Solnechnoye are not golden antiquities. Transport features of Repino

St. Petersburg is beautiful not only for its historical center, but also for its amazing suburbs.
We run to the Finland Station. We take a ticket for the nearest train. And we go to a heavenly place located on the shores of the Gulf of Finland - Repino.
2.

While the electric train is carrying us, we delve into Wikipedia and read the history of the place. It turns out (!) that this settlement has been known since the Middle Ages. The village of Kuokkala at that time occupied vast territories located in the lower reaches of the Sestra River right up to its mouth. Under the terms of the Orekhovets Peace Treaty, which first mentioned this territory, concluded in 1323 between Novgorod and Sweden, the right of Russians to use fishing grounds located beyond the established border was provided for.
3.

According to one version, the name “Kuokkala” is a modified form of “Kokkula” (from Finnish koukku - fishhook).
Frequent wars and border skirmishes made living in these places unsafe. In 1568, 5 peasant families settled in the village devastated after another war. But in 1590, there were already 12 farms on the tax lists of Kuokkala, but they all disappeared at the turn of the century. Most of the residents came to Kuokkala after the Northern War from the neighboring volost of Kivenapa.
Russian and Finnish populations lived here side by side for several centuries. The second name of Western Kuokkala is Vanassi. This is believed to be a Finnish form of the name Athanasius. Already in the 17th century, at the crossroads of the coastal road and the road to the village of Haapala (Leninskoye), there was a tavern, which in the next century began to be called Afanasyev’s tavern, probably after the name of its owner. From him the village of Western Kuokkala received its middle name.
4.

In 1714, by decree of Peter I, construction of an arms factory began in the southern riverine meadows of the village of Kuokkala. A century and a half later, friction arose between the Finnish population and the management of the plant, as a result of which in 1864 the Sestroretskaya Sloboda, together with the arms factory, was transferred from autonomous Finland to the St. Petersburg province.
After the opening of the Finnish Railway in 1870, land began to be actively purchased and built up by wealthy St. Petersburg residents.
5.

6.

And honestly, I understand these people! Repino perfectly combines the advantages of a resort and the atmosphere of country life: fresh sea air, the sound of the surf, a sandy beach.
7.

Dacha expansion reached such a scale that the local population found itself with the rights of a national minority. Economic benefits smoothed over tensions. The situation only worsened during Bobrikov's Russification policy in Finland. The village turned into a St. Petersburg resort, located on the territory of an autonomous principality.
8.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Kuokkala became a popular holiday destination among the creative intelligentsia of St. Petersburg. Here were the dachas of I. Repin, L. Andreev, N. Evreinov, K. Chukovsky, M. Gorky and V. Mayakovsky loved to relax. Vladimir Vladimirovich completed work on his first poem, “A Cloud in Pants,” in 1915.
K. Chukovsky recalled: “In Kuokkala, where Mayakovsky, staggering along the beach, walked the red-hot lines of the poem. This went on for five or six hours - every day. I walked along the seashore for 12-15 versts. His soles were worn away by the stones, his bluish nankeen suit had long since turned blue from the sea wind and sun, but he still did not stop his crazy walking...” And indeed, here you want to walk and walk. Breathe. And think.
9.

Until 1939, the village of Kuokkala was part of the Terijoki volost of the Vyborg province. In 1948, the village was renamed in honor of I.E. Repin. Here, in his estate “Penati”, the artist lived and was buried. After the war, the estate was restored and a museum was organized in it. The estate of Ilya Efimovich Repin is located two kilometers from the center of the village, next to Primorskoye Highway in a coniferous forest. The artist lived here since 1899. The estate is included in the Cultural Heritage Sites of the Russian Federation, as well as UNESCO.

Today there are still many vacationers and tourists in Repino. For this purpose, the necessary infrastructure and attractions are being created. In Repino, the Soviet past very unexpectedly coexists - multi-storey holiday homes and boarding houses, in a very dilapidated state, and new spa centers.

The streets of the village are very different, but they all lead to the water. A sandy beach surrounded by coniferous trees stretches along the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Here everyone will find a holiday to their liking. At a sufficient distance from each other there are volleyball and children's playgrounds, recreation areas for barbecue and beach recreation. And on the beach - only barefoot! Down with sneakers and shoes!
17.

There are cafes and restaurants. My favorite place is the Panorama restaurant. A very cozy establishment. During the cold season, by the way, right in the center of the room there is a fire burning in the open fireplace and firewood crackling, and on a sunny summer day you can perfectly sit on the open terrace.

20.

The beach with fine sand, very slowly and timidly disappearing into the blue of the bay, is an ideal place for walking and meditative practices, for relaxing with friends and for playing sports. In Repino it is equally comfortable both on a hot summer day and on a rainy autumn, cold winter and thin spring.
21.

P.S.
Travel budget:
1) Train ticket from Finlyandsky Station to Repino and back (the journey takes approximately 43-45 minutes) - 166 rubles. See the schedule.

In addition to the electric train, you can, of course, get there by private car and by bus. A bus ticket will cost a little more than an electric train, but the ride will take longer. If you decide, then start from the Chernaya Rechka metro station.

2) Cashew nuts and a bottle of iced tea in a local supermarket - 200 rubles.
22.

3) Unsurpassed Santa Maria pasta and Americano at the Panorama restaurant - 740 rubles. Just believe me, it’s filling, delicious and the place is worth it! You can see the full menu.
Total - 1106 rubles per person.
I won’t even try to convince you that this is almost nothing for a stunning day of walking in the fresh air under the sun and the sound of the oncoming Baltic wave!

Guide to the village of Repino: do it in one day

Repino is worth a visit not only for the famous Penat. In our traditional guide, we tell you who owned the dacha with the name Chukokkala, whether you can have a wonderful rest on the “Wonderful” beach, and where the guests left the vegetarian Repin after a gluttonous dinner.

The village of Kuokkala has been known since 1323. These lands are mentioned in the text of the Orekhovets Peace Treaty, under the terms of which the Russians had the right to fish in the border areas. When the Finnish railway line was opened in 1870, Kuokkala became especially popular among summer residents (as did Sestroretsk and Komarovo). Soon there were more wealthy St. Petersburg residents in these places than the indigenous population, and modest wooden houses were lost among the elegant villas in the northern Art Nouveau style.

How to get there

Electric train: from Finlyandsky station to Repino station

Bus: No. 211 from metro station Old village

Route taxi: No. 400 from the metro station "Ploshchad Lenina", No. 600 from the metro station "Parnas", No. 305 from the metro station "Staraya Derevnya", No. 680 from the metro station "Prospekt Prosveshcheniya"

Repin's "Penates"

Of course, the number one attraction is the estate of Ilya Efimovich Repin.

Purchased in the name of Repin’s wife, Natalia Borisovna Nordman, it was furnished according to the plans of the artist himself. According to Repin’s will, after his death “Penates” was to be transferred to the Academy of Arts, and the house itself was turned into a museum, which opened here in 1940. The estate burned down during the war and was reconstructed in the 1960s.

The estate under Repin was famous for its “Wednesdays”, when anyone who wanted to communicate could come here. And since there were no servants in the house, there were signs everywhere: “Take off your coats and galoshes yourself! Open the door to the dining room yourself!”

What else to see

Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky also lived not far from here. His dacha was jokingly called "Chukokkala". Leonid Andreev, Ivan Bunin, Maxim Gorky, Fyodor Chaliapin and Vladimir Mayakovsky came to visit Chukovsky. By the way, Repin especially liked the latter’s curls, however, after the sketch the poet shaved his head, and that was the end of the matter. Korney Ivanovich's famous album "Chukokkala", in which guests left autographs and Repin drew portraits with a cigarette butt, was published in 1979 by the writer's granddaughter. In 1986, the dacha burned down, and now there is a vacant lot here, which is easy to find and imagine what this place was like under Korney Ivanovich.

There is another attraction in the village - the former building. You can recognize the building by its yellow building with a belvedere and a grand staircase. Typical Stalinist Empire style. Previously, there was the Lintula villa, which once belonged to the Swede Erström, and in 1904-1905 sheltered Maxim Gorky. They say that it was here that the writer met the revolutionary worker who became the prototype for Vlasov in the novel “Mother.” And now there is a hotel in this building.

For leisurely walks, or is suitable, along which there is an esplanade, forming a kind of embankment. There is also an observation deck from which it is good to watch sunsets over the Gulf of Finland.

Where to eat

Repin and his wife were vegetarians, so their guests often headed to the station buffet after a not very filling dinner. If you don’t want to leave Repino hungry, know that this place in the Kurortny district is replete with various cafes and restaurants. Pros: delicious cuisine, interesting interiors and beautiful panoramic views from the windows. Cons: prices here are quite high. The most popular are: with a prim atmosphere and a round fireplace in the center of the hall and, which is located next to the estate museum.

The photo shows Repin's famous rotating table

On a note

On September 29, on the day of memory of I. E. Repin, flowers are laid on the territory, various exhibitions are opened, and concerts are organized.

The estate was named "Penates" in honor of the Roman gods-guardians of the hearth, whose images can be seen on the painted wooden gates of the estate.

Among the modern dachas in the villages of Repino, the most famous are the houses of conductor Valery Gergiev and actor Oleg Basilashvili.

Repin's "Penates"

The estate of Ilya Efimovich Repin is located two kilometers from the center of the village, next to Primorskoye Highway in a coniferous forest. The artist lived here since 1899. The estate is included in the cultural heritage sites of the Russian Federation, as well as UNESCO.

Monument to I. E. Repin

In the center of the village of Repino, in the garden, there is a bust of I. E. Repin, after whom the village is named. The bust stands on a granite pedestal, about 2 meters high, with the inscription “Ilya Repin”.

Central Park (Repino Park)

Between the Repino railway platform and Primorskoe Highway, next to Nagornaya Street, a fairly large park has been laid out on the site of a former wasteland. One central path passes through it (from the Zarya boarding house to Burevestnik).

Along the eastern border of the park, a shallow canal was dug, running from the boiler house of the village of Repino and the Zarya boarding house to the Primorskoye Highway, flowing downstream into the Lovers' Pond.

  • Mayakovsky, Vladimir Vladimirovich completed work on his first poem “” in 1915.

In Kuokkala, where Mayakovsky, “staggering on the beach,” walked the red-hot lines of the poem. “This lasted five or six hours - every day,” recalled K. Chukovsky. “Every day he walked along the seashore 12-15 versts. His soles were worn away from stones, his bluish nankeen suit had long since turned blue from the sea wind and sun, but he still did not stop his crazy walking... When Mayakovsky lived in Kuokkala, he, of course, visited Chukovsky then, and he established “seven dining acquaintances.” .

K. Chukovsky about his trip to Kuokkala in 1925:

...I went to Kuokkala with excitement - I remembered, peered, recognized; there is little snow, the road is solid ice; Having arrived at the janitor's room to see D[mitry] Fedoseevich, he stopped with him. But I didn’t fall asleep for a moment. At night I got up, got dressed, and went to Repin’s dacha. The gates are new, the design is different, but inside everything is the same, the fountain is noisy (as if someone is shuffling their feet), even the outlines of the trees are the same. I was at my dacha - I was falling into the snow - here is the room where my office was, there are two or three shelves left, there is a table and a tattered sofa left, here is the children's room, here is the famous punishment cell - it seems that now a little one will run in Kolenka with little Lidka. The most striking thing is the familiar outlines of houses and trees. I’m wandering around in the dark, under the stars, and suddenly a fence or a frame of a house stands up, and I say: “yes, yes! the same ones." I never thought about them, but it turns out I’ve been carrying them around in my head all these years. All night I was drawn to Repin by some irresistible magnet.

Location of the Chukokkala dacha

1912: in the name of Chukovsky K.I. with the participation of I.E. Repin, a dacha was purchased in the village of Kuokkala (village Repino) diagonally from “Penates” by I.E. Repin, where the Chukovskys lived in the winter. This is how contemporaries describe the location of this dacha (on the plan of famous places, p. 18):

Next to the dacha on the shore of the Gulf of Finland there is a “Bartner” wall, made of “rapakivi” stones, fastened with iron brackets and concrete mortar. On this wall there used to be an old gazebo behind a high, blank fence. The gazebo was removed at the request of residents from the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions in the regional committee dacha, as it attracted everyone's attention. For many years, Chukovsky’s house belonged to the Department of Dacha Services of the Leningrad City Executive Committee. This was building No. 2. Nothing remained of the previous layout. The living-dining room, which occupied half the house, with the famous country table and samovar, disappeared into the plank partitions. Repin and Annenkov painted here, Nikolai Evreinov improvised, Mayakovsky read poetry. The new residents who settled in the cells knew that they lived in a famous house and proudly told their friends about it. The house became increasingly popular. Thousands of people came and came here, since Chukokkala was one of the objects of excursions to the literary places of the Karelian Isthmus. Buses arrived at Penaty, and after visiting the artist’s estate, the guides drew the public’s attention to a two-story cube-shaped house, green (in 1967), standing diagonally across the Primorskoye Highway from Penaty. Even the lawn in front of the house had to be paved so that the heavy excursion Ikarus could turn around. The residents of the house were under siege. Summer residents surrounded by excursionists! The fences around the dachas were removed centrally. The house was naked and public. They began to put up notices prohibiting anyone from approaching the house. A version was spread that this was not Chukovsky’s house, but simply building No. 2, which downplayed the importance of cultural heritage. But there were still alive people the same age as the century, who grew up in Kuokkala next door to the Chukovsky family. This is the architect Zavarzin A.A., the son of the baker Golubev, the children's teacher Malinina Natalia Evgenievna. They clarified a lot of things and marked them on the map. The photo of the house was confirmed by Korney Ivanovich himself. The house was filmed in the movie "Chukokkala". A film about a house and an almanac. All these documents were collected by employees of the Penaty Museum with the goal of placing the house under the protection of the State Inspectorate for Inspection and Making it a branch of the museum.

The fire happened on the night of August 31 to September 1, 1986. Version: someone overheated the stove. The house burned down partially on the bay side, while the wall and verandas remained on the highway side. Due to its disrepair, it was written off the balance sheet of the Department of Dacha Services of the Leningrad City Executive Committee as a dangerous house. The workers of the Penates Museum tried to achieve the restoration of the structure, at least on the same foundation and with the same appearance: they prepared a historical background and organized television filming. The television program was included in the program on May 3, 1987, but it was taken off the air. In May of the same year, the house was dismantled. Now this place is smooth, they even dug out the foundation. The TV show was shown a year later; Soviet Culture published an article about the deplorable state of the former Chukokkala. The Leningrad City Executive Committee replied that they would be happy to rebuild it, but there are no documentary materials. In the summer of 1986, building No. 2 was listed on the street. Kronstadtskaya, 10 (aka Pogranichnaya, 3. Workers of the regional and district committees of the CPSU lived in the house. From the documents of the 6th detachment of the paramilitary fire department of the Sestroretsk region:

Special message. On September 1, 1986, at 00.40 in the village of Solnechnoye, on Kronstadtskaya Street, 10, in dacha No. 2 ECT-5 of the executive committee of the Leningrad City Council, a fire occurred. The fire was extinguished by the forces of the Komarovsky, Zelenogorsk and Sestroretsk branches of the 6th VPO detachment. Six barrels were used, mounted on a fire hydrant. The building is a two-story wooden building, covered with clapboard, covered with slate, measuring 12x10x8 m. The electrical wiring is in good order, there are no bugs. The stove heating is in good condition. During the fire, 160 square meters were burned. m. walls and partitions. The ceilings above the kitchens of the 1st and 2nd floors and rooms located in the western part of the building burned and collapsed. One room remains. The house was built before 1917, more than 100 percent worn out. ECT-5 drew up a report on its burnt property in the amount of 678 rubles. According to their statements, there was no damage to the uninsured property of citizens. During the inspection, it was established that the fire occurred in the room of citizen V.V. Nikanorov, who lived on the first floor in room No. 2, due to careless handling of fire. During the inspection of the room, a burnout was discovered to the right of the entrance to the room. From the explanations of the tenants of this room, it was established that before leaving the dacha, all electrical appliances were turned off, the premises were inspected, and the stoves were not heated. The cause of the fire was careless handling of fire. The second conclusion, taking into account the outbreak and the survey of tenants. The cause of the fire was the entry of unauthorized persons into the building for the purpose of stealing personal property and subsequent arson. Sestroretsk District Department of Internal Affairs "Delo" sent for a fire examination. The initiation of a criminal case was refused; the case is in the archives. Wine gr. Nikanorova V.V. has not been proven, the cause of the fire is unknown. With this wording, the case is closed. A burnt tee was found in a socket in Nikanorov's room. My wife smokes. The reason is either a short circuit or a cigarette.

As of 2011, this place is empty and from the indicated signs one can determine where the dacha was.

In the not-too-distant past, the quiet and peaceful village of Repino bore the romantic Finnish name Kuokkala, apparently from the word “koukku”, which means “hook”. Russians and Finns have lived here since the Middle Ages, occupying together a vast territory on the Sestra River and mostly engaged in fishing.

Later, these picturesque lands attracted the attention of wealthy St. Petersburg residents, who little by little began to rebuild their dachas and estates here. Little by little, until the Finnish Railway opened in 1879, giving the construction a massive scale. It must be said that Kuokkala only benefited from this: although there were more summer residents than aborigines, the village was replenished with elegant wooden villas in the spirit of northern modernism - with the obligatory turrets and openwork carvings. At the end of the 19th century, the village even opened its own railway station, finally turning Kuokkala into a summer resort for the St. Petersburg intelligentsia.

One of the main local attractions is the Penata dacha of the brilliant Russian artist Ilya Repin. Having lived with his wife, writer Natalya Nordman-Severova, in Kuokkala for about thirty years, he transformed a small estate into a nice house with a cozy park with gazebos and a pond. Alas, this is not the original “Penates”: the estate burned down during the war, but was carefully reconstructed in the 1960s. Today, this elegant house with whimsical decor can be accessed directly from the highway through colorful gates.

    Repin's "Penates"

It was here that the artist organized his famous “Wednesdays,” when once a week after three in the afternoon anyone who wanted to communicate could come to the couple. They took advantage of this recklessly: guests poured in in droves, the hosts declared from the doorway with a sign: “Self-help! Take off your coat and galoshes yourself! Open the door to the dining room yourself!”

Interesting fact: the couple were vegetarians, so often after their guests, their visitors, who were not accustomed to light dishes, went directly to the station buffet. The journalists couldn’t get enough of such incidents and described Repin’s “environments” in the newspapers with some malice.

One of the main local attractions is the Penata dacha of the brilliant Russian artist Ilya Repin.

In “Penates” on the second floor, Repin had two workshops - a winter and a summer one (one looked south, the other, logically, north), which, thanks to the glass roof, were always filled with the best natural light for artists.

My wife, Natalya Borisovna, worked on the first floor. Kustodiev, Kuindzhi, Serov, and Yesenin were often met on the estate. Literally across the road lived Korney Chukovsky in his villa “Chukokkala”, which, alas, has not survived.

After 1918, when Kuokkala became part of independent Finland, Repin was one of the few Russians remaining in the village. It was not fun for him to live there, but the artist did not want to part with his beloved home. 12 years after that, he died, and he was buried in his own park. “Penates” was bequeathed to the Academy of Arts and in 1939 it became a museum.

After the war, Kuokkala was renamed Repino, and a fork in the center of the village was decorated with a bust of the artist.

    What to see

Going deeper into the village past the Repin quarters, you can see the building of the former Gorky Rest House. Today this yellow building with a belvedere, a portico and a large grand staircase (an amazing example of the Stalinist Empire style) stands on the site of the former villa of the Swede Erström, Villa Lintula, where 1904-1905. lived Maxim Gorky.
