Journey to the uninhabited island “Harmony of the Elements. Photo tour to Sakhalin with Anton Agarkov Unusual monastery and waterfall

Bed and Breakfast (B&B) literally translates from English as bed and breakfast, but in essence it is the provision of temporary housing for students, business travelers, tourists and other visitors.

That is, this is one of the types of hotel business, which, in turn, is divided into several categories.

  • Homestay. Most often, owners want to rent out one or more rooms in their house or apartment in order to receive additional income. They usually don't want too much publicity or advertising. If you have friends who are not averse to “letting in tenants,” you can start organizing a search for clients. In this case, you advertise, communicate with people and receive commissions as an intermediary. Running a B&B with a homestay can bring in a good income, especially if you expand your "accommodation base" and create a reservation system.
  • Private boarding house. If the house is privately owned, the owner and his family live in it, and there are also 4-5 (but not more than 6) guest rooms, then we can talk about a private boarding house. Here it is already necessary to obtain documents of an individual entrepreneur. Such a boarding house, as a rule, has a sign, and for the owners it is a job and their main income.
  • Private hotel - B&B Inn. This category includes private houses with host accommodation, which have 7-10 or more guest rooms. In this case, it is necessary to comply with all laws and government regulations, compliance with regulated fire safety and sanitary control rules. Preferably - a lot of advertising and a beautiful sign. Breakfast in private hotels is usually offered to residents as part of the room price. There is a “family” atmosphere of the house here, but the rooms are located “autonomously” from the owners. Such B&B Inns can be opened in the historical center of the city, near clinics or universities (depending on who you identify as your potential clients). Clients can be tourists, businessmen, couples, friends and families of students and so on.

What is required for organization

It is clear that you need to purchase everything you need for normal living (bed linen, towels, detergents, household appliances, tables, chairs, bedside tables, cutlery, etc.). But, besides this, if you are going to convert a residential premises into a B&B, carefully look around to see if any repairs or even reconstruction of the premises, interior and exterior are needed.

Day 1 Arrival to Sakhalin

You will be met at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport and taken to the hotel. Once settled, you will have lunch at the Japanese restaurant NIHON MITAI with national cuisine and fresh seafood.

Then go on a sightseeing tour of the city. Visit the Mountain Air ski resort, which offers a beautiful view of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the entire Susunay Valley, surrounded by hills and ridges.

Returning to the hotel, you will have dinner on your own. If you wish, go to the Korean baths and have an evening relaxation.

Day 2 Lake-lagoon Busse

After breakfast, you will take a two-hour journey by jeep or minibus to the Busse lagoon lake. Along the way, in Aniva Bay, you will see Russia's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, an oil export terminal and Russia's first port of Prigorodnoye, built specifically to service oil tankers and ships carrying LNG.

Upon arrival, get acquainted with the lake. Busse is a lagoonal brackish lake connected by a channel to Aniva Bay. There is an abundance of crabs, giant oysters, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, whelk, scallops, shrimp, spizula and maktra shells, red algae ahnfeltia, many species of fish (pink salmon, herring, chum salmon, navaga, smelt, taimen and others).

You will be standing on an island made of oysters! During low tide, you can enjoy the taste of fresh delicacies, picking them up from under your feet. For lunch and dinner, try freshly caught seafood and Far Eastern delicacies. A tent camp with a kitchen and sauna will be organized on the lake. In the evening you will meet the catamaran crew and spend the night in tents.

Day 3 Cape Aniva and lighthouse. Cape Mramorny

You will have breakfast, then prepare for the cruise and board the ship. You will walk 60 km along the coastline, heading towards Cape Aniva - one of the most beautiful and inaccessible places on Sakhalin. You will be greeted by steep cliffs polished by the sea, almost never-ending waves at the junction of two seas, churning foam on the rocky shallows, tireless seagulls and timid seals.

Near the cape there is the Stivuchya rock, on which the Japanese lighthouse Naka-Siretoko Misaki is located. The 31-meter impregnable lighthouse tower seems to be a natural extension of the rock.

You'll then travel 14 km to reach Cape Marble, a huge white mass rising from the sea flecked with green moss. Have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4 Crossing Aniva Bay

After breakfast, you have a long trek ahead (about 120 km): you will cross Aniva Bay and from the Tonino-Aniva Peninsula you will get to the Crillon Peninsula. Lunch will take place on the ship.

You will arrive at Cape Krillon - the southernmost point of Sakhalin Island and a real miracle of nature - a cape open to all the winds. It is washed on three sides by different waters: from the west - the Tatar Strait, from the east - Aniva Bay, from the south - the La Perouse Strait, separating Sakhalin and Japan, which is 43 km from here and in good weather it is clearly visible.

After setting up the camp, you will rest, have dinner and spend the night in tents.

Day 5 Cape Crillon

After breakfast you will continue your exploration of Cape Crillon. An old Russian signal cannon has been preserved on it, there is a weather station, and there is an active lighthouse of the Pacific Fleet and a military unit. Fierce liberation battles of 1945 took place here. The cape was a serious fortified object - you will find a large number of pillboxes, trenches, tanks and cannons, as well as an underground fortified city.

At the camp you will have lunch, dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 6 Cape Kuznetsov. Strait of Tartary

You will have breakfast and go on a short trek to Cape Kuznetsov (20 km), located on the southwestern coast of the Crillon Peninsula. Here there is a year-round rookery for red-listed sea lions and seals, large colonies of cormorants, gulls, and guillemots. You can see a hawk, falcon, egret and red-crowned crane.

From Cape Kuznetsov to the north, 8 km along the coast is Cape Windis. It is crowned by the cupcake-shaped Mount Kovrizhka with steep cliffs (the height of the mountain is 78 m). It is believed that the Ainu used the absolutely flat and high peak as a refuge, escaping from strangers.

To the south of Cape Kuznetsov, just 2 km, is Cape Zamirailov Golova. This ten-kilometer stretch of the southwestern coast of the peninsula is the most scenic - bizarre rocky outcrops, “devil’s fingers”, stone arches, “aquariums”, harsh sheer walls and alluring sea terraces.

In the evening you will have dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 7 Moneron Island. Sea crossing to Nevelsk

You will get up early and have breakfast. Then you will go to Moneron (60 km) - a small island in the Tatar Strait, an extinct volcano 2 million years old. This is a real pearl in the island necklace of the Sakhalin coast, a state nature reserve and border zone.

The main wealth of the island is marine flora and fauna. High water transparency up to 40 m and the influence of the warm Tsushima Current, which increases the temperature of coastal waters by up to 20 degrees, form unique underwater landscapes and determine the existence of especially rare species of underwater fauna. On the coastal reefs there are rookeries of large marine mammals (steller sea lions, spotted seals, seals), and on the islands near the coast there are many bird colonies.

Ancient people used Moneron as a sanctuary. The Japanese, on the contrary, provided the island with complete infrastructure - a road, a pier, a lighthouse, a weather station and even a telephone line. They cultivated fields, planted rice and created orchards.

You will have a tour of the island and lunch. Next - a sea crossing to the city of Nevelsk (70 km). Upon arrival, you will be met at the pier and driven to the base (5 km). You will go to the bathhouse and have dinner. Stay overnight in cabins.

Day 8 Devil's and Witch's Bridges. Japanese Railway. Tunnels

After breakfast you will drive to the city of Kholmsk (47 km). The path will pass along the federal highway, with stops at the observation deck, which offers a beautiful view of the Kholm Pass and the Tatar Strait. Close to the station Nikolaychuk you will leave the car and walk about 5-6 km to the Devil's Bridge.

This unique railway and historical site of Sakhalin was built by the Japanese in 1928. At one time, the bridge was known throughout Japan because of its unusual design.

Lunch (packed rations) awaits you along the route. Then we will move to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (90 km). Upon arrival, you will check into a hotel and have your own dinner.

Day 9 Reserve day

This day is a reserve day in case of bad weather. After breakfast, which will take place in the hotel restaurant, you can organize an additional excursion, visit the fish market, souvenir shops or the Sakhalin Local History Museum.
Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

Day 10 Homecoming

Breakfast awaits you in the hotel restaurant. This will be followed by a transfer to the airport, from where you will return to Moscow.

The Åland Islands have a long tradition of caring for travelers. Along the old post road there were inns where tired travelers could sleep and refresh themselves. Today's visitors move much faster, and the choice of places to stay along the route is more varied.

Most hotels are in Mariehamn, but some are located in the countryside and archipelago: two four-star hotels on the Åland Islands - Havsvidden in Yeta and Silverskär in Saltvik, as well as several three- and two-star hotels, for example Bastö in Finström, Elvira in Ekerö or Gullviva on Brando. There are plans to build the Smakbyn Hotel in Sunda.

There are some very nice and quaint hotels and bed and breakfasts on the Åland Islands. Among the hotels located in a historical setting is the Hotel Enigheten in the old courthouse and inn of the 18th century in the settlement of Degerby on Vöglö. You can also feel the atmosphere of antiquity combined with modern comfort at the Björnhufvud hotels in Ekerø, Kvarnbo in Saltvik and Amalia in Lemland.

Built in the 1980s, Hotel Kvarnbo has an interesting history. The hotel is located opposite the Saltviks kyrka church, and modern archaeologists believe that there was a major center of trade here during the early Iron Age and Viking Ages in 500-1000 AD. When future hotel owners Ella and Martin bought their relative's old house, it was in very poor condition.

Today, the main part of the house with an area of 540 sq.m. has been completely restored. The kitchen, dining room and eight large rooms have been lovingly renovated. The interiors and colors are consistent with the building's era, although it is equipped with all modern amenities - each room has a toilet and shower.

The main idea was that guests would not just spend time here, but could enjoy it. Guests sit and have long conversations in the evenings on the veranda or in the dining room by the fireplace.

Ella is a sommelier and organizes beer, wine and champagne tastings. All equipment is locally produced. The strongest taste experience was caused by tasting the world's oldest champagne, found in the wreck of a ship that sank in Åland waters in 2010.

Ella's other passion is music. Musical events are organized here every summer. Also worth a look is the fully stocked early 20th workshop, which has a bar, pinball and old bicycles that Martin restores.

Although summer is the most favorable season, many people prefer to come to the Åland Islands at other times of the year as well. The following hotels are open all year round or at least until late autumn:

Hotel PellasGästhem in Lappo Brandø and Hostel JurmoVandrarhem in Jurmo Brandø, Degerby Mat & Café in Vöglö, Hotel Antonsgästhem on the island of Cökar, Hotel Djurviks in Jomala, Hotel GodbyGästhem and Hostel GodbyVandrarhem in Gudby, Pension Nybonds in Sund, Camping Sandösunds in Vord yo, Amalia in Lemdande, Hotel AnderssonsochGranbergs in Eckerø.

Bed and Breakfast hotels are an ideal option for those who prefer not to spend extra money on a room in a regular hotel, but still expect normal conditions of comfort and service.

The Bed and Breakfast (bed and breakfast) or B&B system is very popular in many countries of Western Europe.

This is actually one of the most common types of temporary residence in France.

To refer to Bed and Breakfast hotels, the abbreviation B&B is mainly used. B&B hotels are small, family-run hotels that offer a full level of service plus home-cooked meals.

The UK is considered the founder of the Bed and Breakfast system. It was the representatives of Foggy Albion who were the first to come up with a name for a simple and convenient way of living while traveling. However, after several decades, a new type of temporary residence migrated to the entire European continent, including France.

In Bed and Breakfast hotels, the guest always has the opportunity to count on a comfortable minimum of services. These services actually consist of a bed and breakfast. B&B hotels, as a rule, have a standard classification - from 2 to 5 stars. However, it should be taken into account that most hotels in this system do not have any status at all, but at the same time they do not at all represent homeless shelters.

The Bed and Breakfast system is a type of temporary accommodation in city or country private houses, where breakfast is included in the price. Accommodation in a B&B outside the city costs about 30 euros per person per night and about 40 euros for half board. “Room for the night” - an ordinary bedroom without a TV and with a shared toilet will cost 20 euros. But prices also tend to vary depending on the area and season.

Most B&Bs have simple accommodations, but they have a natural French flair. Typically a B&B offers lunch for around 5 euros and dinner for around 15 euros. In these hotels, coziness, comfort and cleanliness in most cases are much higher than standard. This is due, first of all, to the fact that a unified system for evaluating Bed and Breakfast has not yet been developed.

The main distinguishing feature of B&B hotels is the management structure and the small number of rooms. In world hotel practice, the main requirement for those hotels that want to be considered a Bed and Breakfast is management. The hotel must be managed exclusively by the owner of the house or members of his family. If a B&B hotel receives professional management, it is considered only as a mini-hotel or guest house.

The advantages of the Bed and Breakfast system lie not only in the price of the rooms. Often, B&B owners offer their clients a lot of additional services, starting with excursions around sights of Paris and ending with learning crafts. In addition, each B&B is practically an exclusive museum. Here you can see and appreciate not only the design skills of the hotel owners, but also get acquainted with local traditions and rituals.

Embroidery, figurines, tools and cooking style - in many B&B hotels, the way of life shows national identity much more deeply than various educational television programs. Currently, the largest concentration of Bed and Breakfast hotels (Europe) is located in the UK, Spain, Italy, Greece and of course in France. In total, there are over 50 thousand Bed and Breakfast hotels on the planet.

Very often, B&B hotels are located in private houses, the owners of which rent out some rooms only during the favorable season. This method of accommodation at the resort is available, including in Ukraine and Russia. However, it should be taken into account that the comfort and services in Ukrainian and Russian B&B hotels are significantly inferior to their European counterparts, and prices are often even higher.

Over the past ten years, guides to Bed and Breakfast hotels have been constantly published for lovers of budget travel. There are hundreds of resources on this type of temporary residence on an ongoing basis on the Internet, the most famous of which are agoda.com and booking.com.

Part 4. Five states in one day.
Connecticut - Rhode Island - Massachusetts - New Hampshire - Maine
The morning was gloomy, like the state of Connecticut itself. After warming up, I wandered around the motel parking lot. I looked at different car numbers. Americans travel extensively throughout their country. There are a lot of numbers from different states.

2. The quiet gloomy morning only emphasized the greatness of the ocean. The Atlantic lay low.

3. Quiet, calm. You can sit and enjoy the tranquility.

4. And if you close your eyes, you will be able to imagine the smell of sea water, and the cries of seagulls, and the rustle of the oncoming waves.

5. I wish I could live in such a house on the ocean shore!

6. It turns out that there is a road number 1 on the east coast. It is completely local and leads through endless towns flowing into one another. Most often the ocean is not visible. But there are also great views.

7. A lot of flags. Even where they seem to be of no use. Behind me is a marina with a bunch of beautiful boats and yachts.

8. Well, it's time to have breakfast. One of the towns seemed cozy to me. I slowed down, although it is already low in the towns and everyone travels on foot, and began to look out for Diner. Apparently there was some kind of holiday here recently.

9. I sat down in a pleasant cafe and was almost the first. At this time the locals began to arrive for breakfast.

10. Guys, this was the apogee of all breakfasts on my trip! Five! Five different dishes in one plate. Let's start clockwise: bacon, fried potatoes, a small fried cutlet, an omelette and a giant pancake! There was also ice water, a large mug of coffee, and for the first time in my life I tried maple syrup. And this despite the fact that you basically don’t choose anything, but just ask for breakfast, it’s not expensive.

12. Boston Common is the oldest city park in the United States.

13. There are attractions here, but it didn’t seem cozy to me. Maybe the weather is to blame. Like every park in the USA, there are a lot of funny squirrels who are not afraid of people.

14. So, having outlined the route using the navigator, I set off with a gallant step wherever my eyes looked. Along the way we met interesting characters. This guide tells how people in New England were brought to revolution and why they drowned the tea.

15. And this is no longer a mummer, but a real policeman. Maybe. He was walking towards me. I asked him to pose, which he did with pleasure. There are no problems with this in the USA. Senkyu believe match. Good luck. And we went our separate ways, but the memories remained! Class!

16. That same famous seven-meter bronze fountain and that same famous old church. Somewhere here the Freedom Trail begins - the Freedom Trail leading through the sights of the revolutionary city. But I only found out about it now! Well, okay - I don’t think I’ve lost anything.

17. Boston has a lot of pedestrian streets, old cobblestones, and European architecture. Such a cozy city for quiet, leisurely walks. I'm talking about the center.

18. Each state has its own police car coloring. I took pictures of them everywhere. In Boston, cops love vintage cars.

19. Left for Port Point Channel. It was here that Bostonians had their famous Boston Tea Party. There is a museum nearby, right in the middle of the canal.

20. The entire waterfront of old Boston is tormented by marinas. The sidewalks go around these man-made small coves, so you have to walk twice as long. But it's worth it - very beautiful and not crowded.

21. This is what it looks like.

22. But Boston has both glass and metal.

23. And next to it is an old steamboat.

24. Here it is! First lobster on my way! So joyful. It turned out that this was a shop selling fresh seafood. So I didn't eat the lobster. And this is not Maine, but just some kind of Massachusetts. Instead, I went to warm up in a beer restaurant and met a Russian couple. They were visiting Boston. They gave me the correct target indication - where to go next and I turned from the embankment into the center.

25. Boston's famous tourist attraction. Amphibious bus.

26. Streets of old Boston.

27. Wandering through them, I came across a fountain-bowl into which tourists throw coins. I stole a Canadian coin from there as a souvenir.

28. I went to a place where they print the US Declaration of Independence on an old press for tourists and seem to make chocolate.

29. Then I wandered into the butcher shop. Where all the walls were covered with banknotes from different countries. I gave the guy a thousand, there were no others. And he immediately found a place for her.

30. It's time to say goodbye to Boston. I give an excerpt from my Instagram about Boston, my hot impressions at that time: “The town is quiet, cultural. I’m sitting on a bench, thinking about getting to Maine in the dark today and sleeping! Boston is seagulls on the lawns, a minimum of blacks, marinas with yachts and emerging eateries with lobsters and the cry of seagulls..."

31. Somewhere outside of Boston.

32. And I continued to rush north. And drove to the town of York, Maine. It was already evening and I decided to look for accommodation for the night. The coastline of this town turned out to be very picturesque. There is a long beach, along it there is a road, and across the road there are motels interspersed with private houses. And at the end of the beach there is a lighthouse called Nuble Light. The beauty is not real. True, the lighthouse is not visible in the photo; it is very small.

33. As soon as I jumped out onto this road, I immediately decided to stop and admire it. I look and the cars are standing. He came out and asked to take a photo of me against the background of the lighthouse. Of course, it’s a hundred times cooler live. But the feelings were overwhelming!

34. By the time I got to the lighthouse it was already completely dark. Well, the phone and night photos are practically incompatible.

35. Returned from the lighthouse to Long Beach and found a great motel overlooking the ocean. Checked in at about eight in the evening. And I just want to eat so badly. Moreover, opposite the motel, right on the shore, I noticed a restaurant, which turned out to be the only one on this long beach.
I go there. There's no one on the street. The restaurant turns out to be already closed, but open until 20:00! Until eight in the evening! Charles! No matter how I begged to be fed, the staff just threw up their hands, smiled and said no sir, kloss, sori. As was my habit, I blew on the reception desk. I say I came to eat lobsters, so give them to me here. The aunts explained to me that after eight it would be impossible to eat here. Only if you walk a kilometer to another hotel that supposedly has a restaurant. Class. Having received the direction, I blew to the mythical hotel. But I must say that it is dark outside and there are no souls. I walk in one direction for a long time, I don’t see anything. I went in the opposite direction, only late runners, rarely. The ocean became wild, the waves rose, and it became quite scary to walk alone in the dark. Only rare lanterns and windows of houses across the road. And even though the body is under stress, let’s eat. And suddenly I look at the headlights of a car ahead, and the police are blinking behind it. The car comes up to me, passes me a little and presses to the side of the road. A police car pulls up behind. At the same time, a simply brilliant idea comes to my mind! You need to ask the policeman where you can eat anything here, since there’s no time for lobsters anymore.
I return to the police car and stand at the level of its trunk and see that the policeman has gone to check the documents of the car in front. I’m relaxed, smoking and at the same time selecting words from my meager vocabulary for a conversation with the policeman. I see he finished, turned to his car and walked towards me, blinded by the headlights of his car. Those. at that moment he did not see me.
Then everything happened in one second, I will write longer.

As soon as the policeman began to approach the hood of his car, I said something like “Helo sir” in a brave Russian accent! He, not expecting such a setup that someone is rubbing around his car in the night, while he is blinded and does not see anything, jumps up like a cat. His hand rushed to the holster, and he, diving behind the car, puts his free hand forward and begins to yell. I didn't need any translation! He shouted, “Sir, stay where you are and don’t move!” I almost shit myself from surprise! I think comrade in uniform too. I stood rooted to the spot and didn’t understand where to put my hands. Either lower it or raise it.

Well, in short, he shot me!

Joke! He didn't shoot. Sideways, protecting himself with the car, he assessed the situation, came out from behind the car and asked what I wanted. I confusedly explained to the officer that nothing was needed anymore. So eat lobster. He pointed his finger somewhere two kilometers away and said that there was a store there. And he drove off with a honk.
Then I walked for another half an hour until I got to the store, which closed at ten o’clock. Two guys, sellers, took pity on me and scraped the remains of a burrito from some tray and found the last two buns. The guys were so kind that they heated this dish and even gave me a spoon. I bought beer and real American Leis and went home!

36. This is how I ended this long day, alive and well-fed! I lay on a motel bed, watched basketball, drank beer and munched awesome chips. We don't have those!
